{"id":360300,"date":"2026-04-08T16:01:02","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T10:31:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=360300"},"modified":"2026-04-08T16:01:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T10:31:02","slug":"production-linked-incentive-scheme-for-food-processing-industry-plisfpi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/production-linked-incentive-scheme-for-food-processing-industry-plisfpi\/","title":{"rendered":"Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>News: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) was launched recently to strengthen India\u2019s food processing sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>About Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI)<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 562px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mofpi.gov.in\/sites\/default\/files\/pli_e.png?resize=562%2C228&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI)[Central Sector Scheme]\" width=\"562\" height=\"228\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Ministry of Food Processing Industries<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><b> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a government scheme<strong> to modernize and enhance competitiveness of the food processing industry.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Nodal Ministry: <\/b>It has been<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0launched by the<\/span><b> Ministry of Food Processing Industries.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><strong>Type:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Central Sector Scheme<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Aim: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims<\/span><b> to strengthen India\u2019s food processing sector, promote Indian brands globally,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <strong>create global food manufacturing champions.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Duration: <\/b>It will be implemented for<b> over six years from 2021-22 to 2026-27<\/b><b>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Budget: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The total financial outlay of the<\/span><b> scheme is \u20b910,900 crore.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Objectives of the Scheme<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li>The scheme seeks <strong>to enhance value addition<\/strong> in the food processing sector.<\/li>\n<li>It focuses on <strong>expanding processing capacity<\/strong> across the country.<\/li>\n<li>It intends<strong> to generate employment opportunities<\/strong>, particularly in rural and non-farm sectors.<\/li>\n<li>It also focuses on promoting<strong>\u00a0Indian food brands<\/strong> in global markets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Key Components of the Scheme:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>First Component:<\/strong> The schem<strong>e incentivizes the manufacturing of major food product segments<\/strong> such as Ready-to-Cook\/Ready-to-Eat foods, processed fruits and vegetables, marine products, and mozzarella cheese.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>It also covers innovative\/ Organic products of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs),\u00a0 including free range<\/strong> &#8211; Eggs, Poultry Meat, and Egg Products in these segments under the above component.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Second Component: <\/strong>It relates to<strong> production of Innovative \/ Organic products of SMEs.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Third Component:<\/strong> It also provides <strong>support for branding and marketing abroad,<\/strong> including in-store branding and shelf space renting.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It encourages the<strong> use of millets in food products and promotes value addition<\/strong> under the millet-based PLI component.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong> Applicants shall be: <strong>Proprietary Firm<\/strong> or<strong> Partnership Firm<\/strong> or <strong>Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)<\/strong> or a <strong>Company registered in India; <\/strong><strong>Co-operatives and <\/strong><strong>Small &amp; Medium enterprises.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Coverage: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A total of<strong> 128 companies have been approved under the scheme, <\/strong>covering<strong> 274 units<\/strong> across the country.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme <strong>includes strong MSME participation with 68 MSME applicants. <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also supports <strong>40 contract manufacturing units.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Achievements:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Growth in Sales and Exports: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sales of PLI-supported products have<strong> increased at a CAGR of 10.58%.<\/strong> Export sales of these products have grown at a <strong>CAGR of 7.41%.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Promotion of Millet-Based Products:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Sales of millet-based products<\/strong> increased from <strong>\u20b9345.73 crore in FY 2022\u201323 to \u20b91845.25 crore in FY 2024\u201325.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Procurement of millets <strong>increased from 1103.18 metric tonnes to 17089.16 metric tonnes.<\/strong> This reflects nearly a 15-fold increase in millet procurement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Impact on Value Addition and Supply Chain: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme ensures that complete value addition of products takes place within India.
