{"id":36114,"date":"2018-11-01T13:37:42","date_gmt":"2018-11-01T08:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=36114"},"modified":"2018-11-01T13:37:42","modified_gmt":"2018-11-01T08:07:42","slug":"govt-clears-three-export-infra-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/govt-clears-three-export-infra-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt. clears three export infra plans:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-business\/govt-clears-three-export-infra-plans\/article19291258.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Govt. clears three export infra plans<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span>\u00a0(Green signal for three export infra plans)<\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cargo terminal at Imphal airport, modernization of Karnataka facility for marine exports receive green nod.<\/span> <b>Introduction:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With deficient infrastructure severely hurting the competitiveness of India\u2019s exports, the government-for the first time under a new scheme launched in March to address the problem-has given its approval for three proposals including one to establish an Integrated Cargo Terminal (ICT) at the Imphal International Airport.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other applications that received the green signal from an (Inter-Ministerial) Empowered Committee (EC) chaired by Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Modernisation of infrastructure facility in Karnataka for marine exports-where the total cost is Rs 13.34 crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Construction of a new \u2018 Standard Design Factory\u2019 building at Cochin Special Economic Zone (SEZ)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Estimate Committee on \u2018Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES)\u2019 \u2014 in its first ever meeting that was held on June 9 \u2014 deferred on technical grounds an application to set up \u201cthe first dedicated facility\u201d in India to test medical devices.This is proposed to be established at eh Andhra Pradesh Med Tech Zone in Visakhapatna.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Key points:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EC has granted an in-principle nod for a proposal to establish a \u2018Coastal Cashew Research and Development Foundation\u2019 in Karnataka, for which the total cost estimated is Rs 10 crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The TIES, which is being implemented form FY 18 till FY20, has a budgetary allocation of Rs 600 crore. The scheme\u2019s annual outlay is Rs 200 crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a March 2016 report on \u2018Export Infrastructure in India\u2019 by the Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce, \u201cdeficient infrastructure and the manner in which infrastructure is being operated in India are the major obstacles to ensure competitiveness in manufacturing of goods and exports thereof.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report said Indian exports lose competitiveness on account of huge logistics costs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The logistic cost in India is about 14% of the GDP whereas in advanced economies like the U.S. and the European Union, it is 8% and 10% of the GDP respectively.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Standing Committee further said, \u201cOwing to sub-optimal logistic capability, certain sectors dependent on logistics lose as much as 2% on sales return.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An Assocham study conducted a few years back shows that India runs against a disadvantage of about 11% of its trade due to deficient infrastructure.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to an Assocham-Resurgent India jointly study, \u201cIndia can save up to $ 50 billion if logistics costs are brought down from 14% to 9% of country\u2019s GDP thereby making domestic goods more competitive in global makets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The objective of the TIES is to \u201cenhance export competitiveness by bridging gaps in export infrastructure, creating focused export infrastructure and first-mile and last-mile connectivity.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Govt. clears three export infra plans: \u00a0(Green signal for three export infra plans) Context: Cargo terminal at Imphal airport, modernization of Karnataka facility for marine exports receive green nod.
