{"id":361162,"date":"2026-04-20T15:02:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T09:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=361162"},"modified":"2026-04-20T15:02:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T09:32:12","slug":"sports-genomics-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sports-genomics-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Sports Genomics Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>News: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gujarat has introduced an ambitious &#8216;Sports Genomics Programme&#8217; to strengthen India&#8217;s preparation for the Commonwealth Games 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>About Sports Genomics Programme<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 352px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/images.indianexpress.com\/2026\/04\/Guj-genes.jpg?resize=352%2C329&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Sports Genomics Programme\" width=\"352\" height=\"329\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: IE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sports Genomics Programme has been launched <\/span><b>to integrate genetic, physiological, and performance data<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a long-term objective of<\/span><b> enhancing India\u2019s preparedness for the Commonwealth Games 2030.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Launched by: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is being<\/span><b> undertaken by the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC), <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">under the Department of Science and Technology of the state,<\/span><b> in coordination <\/b>with the <b>Sports Authority of Gujarat.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Aim:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It aims t<\/span><b>o identify talent early, create an athlete genome database, and develop personalised training programmes in Gujarat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Goal: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal is to <\/span><b>establish a comprehensive Gujarat Athlete Genome Database<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that integrates genetic, physiological, and performance data to identify genes influencing athletic performance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This database will <\/span><b>also help in identifying genetic risk factors<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for injuries and <\/span><b>enable the design of personalized training and rehabilitation protocols<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for athletes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will also help <\/span><b>understand sex- and age-related genomic differences <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">influencing athletic adaptation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Features<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the programme, the <\/span><b>GBRC will collect at least 2,000 genetic samples per year <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over five years, with the 10,000 samples <\/span><b>covering 10 sports \u2013 five endurance and power sports each.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These sports<\/span><b> will be identified in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Gujarat,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from all the districts of the state.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sampling strategy would also be decided in collaboration with the Sports Authority.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Gujarat has introduced an ambitious &#8216;Sports Genomics Programme&#8217; to strengthen India&#8217;s preparation for the Commonwealth Games 2030.
