message<\/strong> to simultaneously <strong>trigger multiple communication channels &#8211; <\/strong>like SMS, TV, radio, and sirens &#8211; ensuring <strong>timely, consistent, and effective communication to at-risk populations<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Pan India Coverage: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is already operational across<\/span><b> all states and Union Territories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has delivered over 134 billion SMS alerts in more than 19 Indian languages.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>How it works:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Bulk messaging: <\/b>Recent upgardation<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>introduces Cell Broadcast (CB) technology alongside SMS, <\/b>enabling authorities to push alerts simultaneously to all mobile phones in a <strong>specific geographic area<\/strong><b>, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rather than sending messages individually.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Instant Messaging: Cell Broadcast (CB) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">messages are transmitted <strong>directly from mobile towers to devices using a dedicated channel<\/strong>, allowing millions of users to receive alerts almost instantly <strong>without any need of internet connection.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Geo-tagged: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system is<\/span><b> geo-targeted, meaning only people physically present in an affected area<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, such as a coastal zone during a tsunami warning, will receive the alert.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Messages<\/strong> are also <\/span><b>designed to override typical notification behaviour &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">they can appear <\/span><b>as pop-ups on screens, may trigger a loud alert tone or vibration, and are displayed prominently <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">until acknowledged by the user.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>does not rely on individual phone numbers and can reach even roaming users or devices <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">without heavy network usage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Multiple languages:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Messages will be <strong>delivered in multiple languages<\/strong> based on region and device settings.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Coverage of types of alerts: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system will be used fo<\/span><b>r both natural and man-made emergencies, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including earthquakes, tsunamis, lightning strikes and man-made hazards such as gas leaks or chemical incidents.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Immediate threat notifications<\/strong> (e.g. evacuation orders, hazardous leaks)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Public safety advisories<\/strong> (do\u2019s and don\u2019ts during disasters)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Location-specific instructions,<\/strong> such as evacuation routes or shelters<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: India rolled out a mobile-based disaster communication system (SACHET) aimed at delivering near-real-time emergency alerts directly to citizens\u2019 phones.
