It is a <strong>regional trade bloc <\/strong>of <strong>South American countries.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Established: It was <strong>established in 1991<\/strong> through the <strong>signing of the Treaty of Asunci\u00f3n.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: The grouping aims to ensure the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people, and it became a customs union in January 1995.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Members<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Founding Members<\/strong>: <strong>Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay<\/strong> were the founding members.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Later Members:<\/strong> <strong>Bolivia and Venezuela<\/strong> joined MERCOSUR later, (<strong>Venezuela has remained suspended<\/strong> from the grouping since <strong>December , 2016<\/strong>.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Associate Members:<\/strong> <strong>Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, and Suriname<\/strong> are associate members and participate in activities and meetings of the bloc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Headquarters<\/strong>: The headquarters is located in <strong>Montevideo, Uruguay.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Aspects:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Integrated Market:<\/strong> MERCOSUR is the <strong>fourth largest integrated market<\/strong> after the European Union (EU), North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and ASEAN.<\/li>\n<li><strong>International Cooperation:<\/strong> The bloc has signed <strong>commercial, political, and cooperation agreements<\/strong> with several countries and organizations across all five continents.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Official Languages:<\/strong> <strong>Spanish and Portuguese<\/strong> are the official working languages of the bloc, while <strong>Guarani<\/strong> was added as one of its languages in 2006.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Governance Structure:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Composition<\/strong>: The <strong>Common Market Council<\/strong> includes <strong>foreign and economic ministers of member states.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Decision-Making:<\/strong> The Council takes <strong>decisions through consensus<\/strong> among member countries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rotating Presidency:<\/strong> The presidency of the bloc <strong>rotates every six months among full members.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Critical Mineral Resources:<\/strong> MERCOSUR countries possess critical minerals such as lithium, nickel, and rare earth elements that are important for Europe\u2019s industrial and clean energy ambitions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Recently, India and Brazil agreed to significantly expand their existing trade agreement with the MERCOSUR regional trade bloc.
