America.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Formation: The group of island<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0were created by<\/span><b> volcanic activity associated with a hotspot<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located about 400 km east of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tristan Island itself <\/span><b>forms part of a stratovolcano<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that first erupted nearly 3 million years ago, although the island only emerged above sea level around 200,000 years ago.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are a <\/span><b>constituent part of the British overseas territory of St. Helena, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are <\/span><b>considered the most remote inhabited chain of islands in the world.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The group comprises <\/span><b>Tristan da Cunha, Nightingale, Inaccessible, and Gough Islands.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Note: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two islands, <\/span><b>Gough Island and Inaccessible Island,\u00a0 together constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while<\/span><b> Nightingale Island, Stoltenhoff Island, and Alex (Middle) Island<\/b> are also <b>internationally recognized<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for their exceptional biodiversity.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Tristan da Cunha Island is roughly circular<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with a<\/span><b> coastline of 34 km and a central volcanic cone (2,060 metres)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is usually cloud-covered.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Climate: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The climate of the island is<\/span><b> wet, windy, and mild.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Highest point<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><b> Queen Mary\u2019s Peak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the highest point on Tristan da Cunha Island.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Wildlife:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Seven-gill sharks, blue sharks, shortfin mako sharks, southern right whales, fin whales, humpback whales, sperm whales, dolphins, elephant seals, and albatrosses, as well as 200,000 rockhopper penguins, more than five million shearwaters, and 300,000 sub-Antarctic fur seals are aound here.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Economy:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The island economy\u00a0<\/span><b>depends on a\u00a0<strong>sustainable commercial fishery for the Tristan rock the Canaries have black sand\u00a0due to their volcanic composition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution:<\/strong> The archipelago comprises <strong>seven major islands<\/strong> and<strong> numerous other minor islands or islets,<\/strong> divided <strong>into two groups:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong> Western group:<\/strong> It consists of <strong>La Palma, Tenerife, La Gomera, Gran Canaria, and Ferro.<\/strong> This group is made up of mountain peaks rising directly from the deep seabed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eastern group: <\/strong>It comprises <strong>Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and six islets (the Chinijo Archipelago)<\/strong> that all sit on an underwater plateau, the Canary Ridge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Smallest island<\/strong>: La Graciosa is a small island located in the Chinijo Archipelago.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Largest island:<\/strong> <strong>Tenerife<\/strong> is the largest island of the Canary Archipelago, spanning 2,034 km<sup>2.<\/sup>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Note: Fuerteventura<\/span><\/span> is the <strong>second-largest island in the archipelago and is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve<\/strong> that protects one of the last two
