{"id":36271,"date":"2018-11-02T11:37:59","date_gmt":"2018-11-02T06:07:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=36271"},"modified":"2018-11-02T11:37:59","modified_gmt":"2018-11-02T06:07:59","slug":"substance-and-optics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/substance-and-optics\/","title":{"rendered":"Substance and optics:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-opinion\/substance-and-optics\/article19237096.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Substance and optics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: (The Hindu, Editorial)<\/span> <b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The recent visit of India&#8217;s Prime Minister to Israel made a considerable positive impact on the relationship between both the countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Behind the success was a receptive political backdrop as well as the careful planning undertaken by both sides.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The relationship &#8211; a brief<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Israel was one of the few countries that showed complete understanding of India\u2019s decision to undertake the nuclear tests in 1998.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, Israel has emerged as the third-largest defence supplier for India and accounts for over 40% of Israel\u2019s defence exports.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commercial relations between the diamond traders in Gujarat and Israel had existed before 1992, but now annual trade grew to billions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gradually, Science and technology, agriculture, biotech and space too emerged as new areas of cooperation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India also emerged as the preferred destination for young Israelis wanting to unwind after their compulsory military service. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The planning:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to Prime Minister Narendra Modi&#8217;s visit to Israel, a number of preparatory visits covering diverse areas of agriculture, water resources and space took place under effective coordination of the Prime Minister\u2019s Office.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the Israeli side, the cabinet approved a 23-page document identifying potential cooperation areas with India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the last three years, Israel has already set up 15 centres of excellence for introducing improved practices, particularly in horticulture and agro-processing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An Industrial R&amp;D and Innovation Fund has been created with a contribution of $20 million each to promote knowledge-based partnerships.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The chemistry between the two leaders:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a natural affinity in political style that draws both the leaders of the country together.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two leaders project a strong nationalism, enjoined with faith.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Initiatives:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both India-Israel have agreed to establish a task force to ensure implementation of the announcements made.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Conclusion:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian Prime Minister&#8217;s visit to Israel will ensure that the relationship stays on track.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Substance and optics: (The Hindu, Editorial) Context: The recent visit of India&#8217;s Prime Minister to Israel made a considerable positive impact on the relationship between both the countries.
