ESA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>SMILE Mission<\/strong> stands for &#8216;<strong>Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer Mission<\/strong>&#8216;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Implemented by:<\/strong> The <strong>joint <\/strong>mission is implemented by <strong>European Space Agency (ESA)\u00a0Science Programme<\/strong> and the <strong>Chinese National Space Science Centre (NSSC) under Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim:<\/strong>\u00a0This mission is designed <strong>to study the interaction between solar wind and earth\u2019s magnetosphere.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The mission aims to capture the <strong>first X-ray images of earth\u2019s magnetic shield<\/strong> as it deflects harmful charged particles and energies coming from the Sun.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Launched through:<\/strong> The mission will be <strong>launched on a European Vega-C rocket.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Position<\/strong>: SMILE will be positioned <strong>about 1.21 lakh km above Earth\u2019s north pole<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Aspects:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Satellite weighs:<\/strong> The satellite weighs <strong>about 2,600 kg.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Mission Life:<\/strong> It has a mission life of <strong>about three years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><strong>Payload Instruments: <\/strong><\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Total payload<\/strong> : The mission is <strong>carrying four payload.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Payload weight: Payload weight is \u00a070 kg in total.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Developing Agencies:<\/strong> ESA developed the Soft X-ray Imager (SXI), while the <strong>Chinese team developed other three.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Soft X-ray Imager (SXI)<\/strong>: ESA developed this instrument to <strong>capture X-ray images of the magnetosphere.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Magnetometer<\/strong>: This payload will study <strong>magnetic field changes near Earth.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Light Ion Analyser (LIA):<\/strong> This instrument will <strong>analyse charged particles near Earth.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ultraviolet aurora Imager (UVI):<\/strong> This payload will <strong><strong>observe auroras in ultraviolet wavelengths.<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>in situ observations: <\/strong>All these payloads will <strong>use remote sensing and make in situ (on site) observations<\/strong> along the <strong>near-Earth regions.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Space Weather Forecasting:<\/strong> The mission is expected to <strong>improve forecasts of solar storms and space weather disturbances.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Protection of Infrastructure:<\/strong> Better forecasts can help <strong>protect satellites, GPS, communication systems, airline operations, electricity grids, and astronaut safety.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Previous Similar Mission:<\/strong> Earlier ESA missions such as <strong>Swarm and Cluster<\/strong> also studied Earth\u2019s magnetosphere and related space processes<span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary);
