{"id":36366,"date":"2018-11-02T12:35:38","date_gmt":"2018-11-02T07:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=36366"},"modified":"2018-11-02T12:35:38","modified_gmt":"2018-11-02T07:05:38","slug":"written-off-in-the-hinterland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/written-off-in-the-hinterland\/","title":{"rendered":"Written-off in the hinterland:\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-opinion\/written-off-in-the-hinterland\/article19200382.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Written-off in the hinterland<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong><u>Context:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The educational system in rural India is not able to create favorable conditions to be at par with the urban system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>A comparison:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Retrospectively, educational institutes represented the dream of a philanthropist to export the best human talent of his region to the global market.<\/li>\n<li>But the fact that education can serve a village in ways that allow it to retain its best boys and girls had been discarded long ago.<\/li>\n<li>The rural institutions gave its metropolitan counterparts stiff competition on global playgrounds.<\/li>\n<li>They invested in technological aids to give the rural youth an opportunity to aspire for legitimate heights.<\/li>\n<li>For those financially backward, school is meant to be a potential break from the likelihood of a life dependent on shrinking income from agriculture and labor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Introduction to Rural development:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The term rural development represents an essentially colonial view of the village.<\/li>\n<li>Also, rural development represents an essentially colonial view of the village; modernity for the village can only mean its merger in the urban landscape.<\/li>\n<li>Moreover, migration from rural areas has a positive side to it because the state\u2019s services are more accessible in cities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Education in the rural context:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schools in rural areas remained neglected and attempts to improve them never gained momentum.<\/li>\n<li>The larger unit of rural children suffered the consequences of low budgeting and poor staffing.<\/li>\n<li>Education of the rural child has failed to depart from the stereotype which associates modernity with city life.<\/li>\n<li>Education has worsened the rural-urban asymmetry, deepening the alienation of the rural citizen.<\/li>\n<li>The idea that education can serve a village in ways that allow it to retain its best boys and girls had been discarded long ago.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s often seen that villages became the supplier of talent to the city and so thus the concept coaching takes its roots.<\/li>\n<li>Lakhs of students from rural and semi-urban areas spend their youth getting coached indiscriminately for competitive entry into an ever-shrinking opportunity market.<\/li>\n<li>Moreover, with the scarcity of employment, there\u2019s the struggle to sustain one\u2019s aspiration and the other part is living with frustration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Conclusion<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To sum up, the education system in India as a whole is rote memorization, leading to behavior which encourages cramming and forgetting rather than lifelong learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written-off in the hinterland:\u00a0 Context: The educational system in rural India is not able to create favorable conditions to be at par with the urban system.
