
{"id":363667,"date":"2026-05-26T16:36:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T11:06:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=363667"},"modified":"2026-05-26T16:36:46","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T11:06:46","slug":"singalila-national-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/singalila-national-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Singalila National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-box-green\">\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong> Communities in Darjeeling predict the arrival of rains with a bird call of Bay Woodpecker found in dense forest of Singalila National Park.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><strong>About Singalila National Park<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_363670\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-363670\" style=\"width: 343px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-363670\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Singalila-National-Park.webp?resize=343%2C388&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"343\" height=\"388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Singalila-National-Park.webp?resize=265%2C300&amp;ssl=1 265w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Singalila-National-Park.webp?resize=768%2C869&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Singalila-National-Park.webp?w=850&amp;ssl=1 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 343px) 100vw, 343px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-363670\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Researchgate<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location:<\/strong> Singalila National Park is located on the <strong>Singalila Ridge at an altitude of more than 7000 feet above mean sea leve<\/strong>l, in the <strong>Darjeeling district of West Bengal.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Singalila Ridge<\/strong> runs from <strong>north to south<\/strong> and <strong>separates<\/strong> the <strong>Himalayan region of West Bengal<\/strong> from the <strong>other Eastern Himalayan mountain ranges on the west side.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The park is <strong>located in the Eastern Himalayas<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Boundary:<\/strong> It is bordered by the state of <strong>Sikkim in the north<\/strong> and <strong>Nepal in the west.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Establishment:<\/strong> It wa<strong>s declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1986,<\/strong> and was<strong> made a National Park in 1992.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The region had long been <strong>used as the trekking route from Manebhanjhyang to Sandakphu (the highest peak of West Bengal) and Phalut.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Peak:<\/strong> The <strong>two<\/strong> highest peaks of <strong>West Bengal, Sandakphu (3630 m) and Phalut (3600 m)<\/strong> are located on the ridge and inside the park.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Associated rivers: River Rammam and River Sirikhola<\/strong> flow through the park.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora: Thick bamboo, oak, magnolia and rhododendron forest<\/strong> between 2000 and 3600 m cover the Singalila Ridge.\n<ul>\n<li>There are <strong>two seasons<\/strong> of<strong> wildflower bloom &#8211; one in spring when the Rhododendrons bloom<\/strong>, and another in the<strong> post-monsoon season, when the lower forests bloom<\/strong> (Primula, Geranium, Saxifraga , Bistort, Senecio, Cotoneaster and numerous orchids).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sandakphu<\/strong> is known as the &#8220;<strong>mountain of poisonous plants&#8221;<\/strong> due to the large concentration of <strong>Himalayan Cobra Lilies (Arisaema),<\/strong> which grow there.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna:<\/strong> The park has a number of small mammals, including the <strong>Red Panda, Leopard Cat, Barking Deer, Yellow-throated Marten, Wild Boar, Pangolin and the Pika.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Larger mammals include the<strong> Himalayan Black Bear, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Serow and the Takin.<\/strong> Tigers occasionally wander into the area.<\/li>\n<li>The park is also on the<strong> flyway of many migratory birds.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The endangered <strong>Himalayan Newt frequents the region, and congregates around the lakes of Jore Pokhri, Sukhia Pokhri<\/strong> and nearby lakes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Communities in Darjeeling predict the arrival of rains with a bird call of Bay Woodpecker found in dense forest of Singalila National Park.
