110 kg.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <strong>relatively short legs, with its body being lower<\/strong> in the <strong>front<\/strong> than the back.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a<strong> short and wedge-shaped face.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <strong>brown with a yellowish or reddish tinge in appearance<\/strong> and sometimes has a speckled appearance, as some hairs have white tips.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a <strong>darker band running down its spine.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<strong> females are slightly smaller than the males and lack antlers.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Males<\/strong> bear t<strong>hree-tined antlers,<\/strong> mounted on short pedicles on the forehead.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its distinctive feature is the <\/span><b>unusually large, round ears<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that are fringed with white hairs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, its <\/span><b>tail is particularly bushy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> due to long hairs that lie in a dorsoventral pattern.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Diet: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It feeds upon <\/span><b>grass, leaves,<\/b> young shoots, herbaceous plants and riverside vegetation.<\/li>\n<li><b>Behaviour:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is a <\/span><b>solitary animal and is not found in large herds.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It makes a <\/span><b>whistling sound when alarmed and gives a warning bark.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a <\/span><b>habit of rushing through grass with its head down<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like a pig, rather than bounding or leaping over obstacles like other deer species.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <strong>sedentary<\/strong> and <strong>does not migrate.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Males<\/strong> tend to be territorial and<strong> mark their territory with glandular secretions.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Threats: H<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>abitat fragmentation due to anthropogenic activities and hunting<\/strong> are the main threats to its existence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Conservation:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>IUCN Red List: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is currently classified as<\/span><b> Endangered<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as per the<\/span><b> IUCN Red List.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972:<\/strong> It is protected under <\/span><b>Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse;
