400;\">The Marbled cat is a <\/span><b>small wild cat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that lives in the mountainous areas of Asia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Scientific name:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Its scientific name is <strong>Pardofelis marmorata.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is closely <\/span><b>related to the Asian golden cat and the Bay cat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Habitat: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is primarily found in<\/span><b> moist, tropical evergreen forests and<\/b> have<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also been recorded in <\/span><b>mixed deciduous forests and secondary growth areas.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Distribution: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its range <\/span><b>extends from the Himalayan foothills in Nepal across southwestern China and throughout mainland Southeast Asia to the islands of Borneo and Sumatra.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li>In India, it is found in <strong>West Bengal, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Characteristics:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Appearance: <\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The marbled cat is <\/span><b>about the same size as a domestic cat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has<\/span><b> rounded ears and a very long tail,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is nearly equal to the combined length of its head and body.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> tail is marked with black spots near its base and black rings <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">toward the tip.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its<\/span><b> long, dense fur varies in colour from brownish-grey to ochreous brown on the upper body <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and from greyish to buff on the underparts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>coat is thick, soft, and well adapted to its habitat.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>short, rounded head is marked with distinct black stripes. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Black stripes also extend along the neck and back.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>flanks display irregular dark-edged blotch<\/b>e<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s that merge into larger dark patches, <\/span><b>creating a characteristic marbled appearance<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>limbs, underbelly, and tail bear solid black spots.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spots on the <\/span><b>forehead and crown merge into narrow longitudinal stripes <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the neck and irregular stripes along the back.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <\/span><b>unusually large feet and prominent canine teeth.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its paws are<\/span><b> webbed between the toes, and the claws remain completely sheathed when not in use.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Diet: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its diet is largely composed of <\/span><b>tree-dwelling prey, including squirrels, rats, and birds. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the forest floor, it may also<strong> hunt reptiles, frogs, and various insects.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Behaviour:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is<\/span><b> primarily diurnal,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or active during the day.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <strong>very good climbers and are semi-arboreal.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>It maintains its territory by marking boundaries with urine and scent signals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Threat: Habitat loss and fragmentation due to logging and agricultural expansion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, especially oil palm plantations, are the greatest threats to the Marbled Cat.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also <\/span><b>affected by illegal hunting and trade for its skin, meat, and bones.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Conservation measures: <\/b>In October 2025, the <strong>Hii:ung Hii:eng community<\/strong> <strong>forest<\/strong> in <strong>Siang district<\/strong>, <b>Arunachal Pradesh, <\/b>was formally declared<b> India\u2019s first community-conserved area<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dedicated to the marbled cat by the Lokpeng Welfare Society.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Conservation status:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align:
