E85 fuel contains a <strong>mix of 80%-85% ethanol blended with 14% to 19% petrol<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Price:<\/strong> E85 is nearly<strong> Rs 20 per litre<\/strong> <strong> cheaper than conventional petrol <\/strong>to ensure that the economic benefits of domestically produced ethanol are passed on to consumers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Use:<\/strong> E85 is engineered exclusively for <strong>specialised<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/flex-fuel-vehicles-ffvs\/\"> flex-fuel vehicles<\/a>, or FFVs.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Note: <\/strong>Regular petrol vehicles cannot use E85 fuel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Advantages<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Environmental impact:\u00a0<\/strong> FFVs operating on<strong> E85 can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions<\/strong> by around 61% compared with conventional petrol vehicles.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ethanol-based FFVs,<\/strong> including vehicles running on high ethanol blends such as E85, have been classified<strong> as zero-emission vehicles by Niti Aayog.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>E85 fuel also produces near-zero particulate matter emissions,<\/strong> making FFVs a promising solution for addressing the country\u2019s growing air pollution challenge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Its use will also <strong>boost farmers\u2019 income, reduce dependence on crude oil imports, and strengthen the country\u2019s energy security.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><strong>About Ethanol<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Ethanol is an\u00a0<strong>anhydrous ethyl alcohol<\/strong>\u00a0having chemical formula of\u00a0<strong>C2H5OH<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Source:<\/strong>\u00a0It can be produced from\u00a0<strong>sugarcane, maize, wheat<\/strong>, etc. which are having\u00a0<strong>high starch content<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In India, ethanol is mainly\u00a0<strong>produced from sugarcane molasses<\/strong>\u00a0by fermentation process.<\/li>\n<li>Ethanol can be\u00a0<strong>mixed with gasoline<\/strong>\u00a0to form different blends.<\/li>\n<li>As the ethanol molecule\u00a0<strong>contains oxygen<\/strong>, it allows the engine to more\u00a0<strong>completely combust<\/strong>\u00a0the fuel, resulting in fewer emissions and thereby reducing the occurrence of environmental pollution.<\/li>\n<li>Since ethanol is\u00a0<strong>produced from plants<\/strong>\u00a0that harness the power of the sun, ethanol is also considered as\u00a0<strong>renewable fuel<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister recently launched the \u201cE85 fuel\u201d at a retail fuel outlet in New Delhi.
