News:<\/strong> President Droupadi Murmu conferred Gallantry Awards to the personnel of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and State and Union Territory Police during the Defence Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan this evening.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

  • The first three gallantry awards –<\/strong>\u00a0Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, and Vir Chakra<\/strong> were instituted by the government of India on 26th January 1950.<\/strong>\n

    • These awards are given during\u00a0war time<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Three other gallantry awards<\/strong> – the Ashoka Chakra Class-I, the Ashoka Chakra Class-II, and the Ashoka Chakra Class-III<\/strong> \u2014 were instituted in 1952<\/strong>. <\/span>\n

      • Renaming:<\/strong> These awards were renamed Ashoka Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Shaurya Chakra<\/strong> in January 1967<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n
