Wikipedia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>Maharaja Chhatrasal (4 May 1649 \u2013 19 December 1731) was a <strong>medieval Indian warrior <\/strong>who <strong>fought against the Mughal Empire<\/strong> and <strong>established an independent kingdom in Bundelkhand.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Birth<\/strong>: He was born on 4 May 1649 to <strong>Champat Rai and Lal Kunwar in the Bundela Rajput clan.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lineage<\/strong>: He was a <strong>descendant of Rudra Pratap Singh of Orchha<\/strong>, and his <strong>ancestors were vassals of the Mughal emperor.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Disillusionment with Mughals:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Father&#8217;s Sacrifice:<\/strong> His father had raised the banner of freedom against the Mughals but was killed in battle.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Struggle Against Mughal Rule:<\/strong> Chhatrasal started his <strong>struggle against Mughal dominance in 1671<\/strong> and continued it for about 50 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Relation with Baji Rao I:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Military Assistance:<\/strong> <strong>Baji Rao I helped Chhatrasal against Muhammad Khan Bangash<\/strong> and enabled him to retain his kingdom.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Family Alliance: Mastani, Chhatrasal\u2019s daughter, <\/strong>became the <strong>second wife of Baji Rao I.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Influence by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Meeting with Shivaji:<\/strong> Chhatrasal met Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in <strong>Deogarh in 1671.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Inspiration for Swarajya:<\/strong> Shivaji inspired him <strong>to fight for self-rule and adopt guerrilla warfare tactics<\/strong> against the Mughal armies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rise of the Bundela Kingdom:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Modest Beginning:<\/strong> He started his rebellion at the age of 22 with only 5 horsemen and 25 swordsmen.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Formation of Kingdom:<\/strong> He established his own <strong>kingdom at the age of 26 against Mughal dominance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Territorial Expansion:<\/strong> He expanded his <strong>control from Chitrakoot and Panna in the east to Gwalior in the west.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spiritual Guru:<\/strong> <strong>Mahamati Prannathji<\/strong> was his spiritual guru.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>He guided Chhatrasal in political, social, and economic matters<\/strong> and <strong>informed him about the diamond mines of Panna.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Title<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"11\" data-end=\"96\"><strong data-start=\"13\" data-end=\"26\">Maharaja:<\/strong> Sant Prannathji bestowed the title of <strong data-start=\"65\" data-end=\"79\" data-is-only-node=\"\">\u2018Maharaja\u2019<\/strong> upon Chhatrasal.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"97\" data-end=\"203\" data-is-last-node=\"\"><strong data-start=\"99\" data-end=\"108\">Raja:<\/strong> Aurangzeb conferred the title of <strong data-start=\"142\" data-end=\"152\" data-is-only-node=\"\">\u2018Raja\u2019<\/strong> upon him before his rebellion against Mughal rule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patron of Literature:<\/strong> His court <strong>supported noted poets<\/strong> such as <strong>Kavi Bhushan, Lal Kavi, and Bakhshi Hansaraj,<\/strong> whose writings brought him lasting fame.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Legacy<\/strong>: The town and district of <strong>Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh are named after him.<\/strong> The <strong>Maharaja Chhatrasal Museum in Madhya Pradesh<\/strong> and the <strong>Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi<\/strong> also commemorate his legacy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:\u00a0The Mahua Festival at the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum featured a special dance-drama on Maharaja Chhatrasal\u2019s life and legacy.
