style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an<\/span><b> advanced network of radars, command centres, and interceptor missiles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> designed to detect, track, and neutralise incoming ballistic missiles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Initiated in: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The BMD program was<strong> launched in 1999<\/strong> in the <strong>aftermath of Pakistan\u2019s 1998 nuclear tests.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Component: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of several <strong>launch vehicles, specialised long-range radars, Launch Control Centres (LCC), and the Mission Control Centre (MCC).<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Features:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Technology<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It relies on the indigenous <\/span><b>Long Range Tracking Radar (LRTR),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which was developed <\/span><b>using technology derived from the Green Pine radar produced by Israel Aerospace Industries.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Dual-Altitude Tiered Architecture: It works on two levels:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Endo-atmospheric<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (within Earth\u2019s atmosphere) and e<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Exo-atmospheric <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(the space stretching beyond Earth\u2019s atmosphere).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Three Phases:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Phase I: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of the <\/span><b>Prithvi Defence Vehicle and Advanced Air Defence interceptors, which can engage targets at altitudes of approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) and 25 kilometers (15.53 miles), respectively.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Phase II: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Phase-II architecture significantly<\/span><b> expands the defensive envelope by targeting ballistic missiles within the 5,000-kilometre class, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missiles and selected Intercontinental Ballistic Missile-level threat profiles.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The system<\/span><b> comprises two interceptors, AD-1 and AD-2 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">designed to engage ballistic missile threats in both the<\/span><b> endo-atmospheric and exo-atmospheric phases of flight.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>AD-1<\/b> <b>missile <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a<\/span><b> long-range interceptor missile <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles as well as aircraft.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>AD-2 missile<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is c<\/span><b>apable of intercepting intermediate-range ballistic missiles (3000-5500 km).<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Phase III: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Phase III will see the <\/span><b>development of two new interceptor missiles, which are internally called AD-AH and AD-AM.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>AD-AH is designed to address the challenges of intercepting hypersonic glide vehicles (HGVs),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which can maneuver unpredictably and alter their flight path during transit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>AD-AM is optimized for countering hypersonic cruise missiles (HCMs), <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which sustain extremely high speeds while operating within the Earth&#8217;s atmosphere.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>It is designed to<strong> intercept hypersonic weapons and maneuverable hypersonic glide vehicles<\/strong> that can alter their trajectory during flight.<\/li>\n<li>The system is also intended to counter missiles equipped with <strong>Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>By addressing MIRV threats, <strong>the system can defend against attacks aimed at multiple targets spread across a wide geographical
