FAO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Turquoise Nexus Initiative (TNI)<\/strong>\u00a0is a <strong>proposed initiative<\/strong> to <strong>integrate food, water, and climate actions<\/strong> within <strong>national climate commitments.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Proposed<\/strong>: The initiative was <strong>proposed during a side event at the Bonn Climate Change Conference 2026<\/strong> and is <strong>scheduled for a formal launch at COP31 later this year.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Launched by:<\/strong> The initiative was <strong>introduced by Turkey\u2019s<\/strong> COP31 Presidency and the <strong>Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective<\/strong>: The initiative aims to <strong>help developing countries embed integrated food-water-climate approaches<\/strong> into their <strong>Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)<\/strong> and <strong>Paris Agreement implementation efforts.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Parent Mechanism:<\/strong> The TNI operates under the<strong> FAO\u2019s multi-stakeholder Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST)<\/strong> <strong>Partnership.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Aspects:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Addressing Fragmentation:<\/strong> The initiative seeks to <strong>overcome fragmentation in national climate commitments<\/strong> by linking food, water, and climate policies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strengthening Adaptation Efforts:<\/strong> It promotes <strong>coordinated approaches<\/strong> because separate policy frameworks often reduce the effectiveness of adaptation and resilience measures.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Farmer-Centred Approach:<\/strong> The <strong>World Farmers\u2019 Organisation supported the initiative<\/strong> and called for farmers to be recognized as primary managers of water resources.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Improved Water Governance:<\/strong> The initiative highlights that <strong>effective water governance should be developed with farmers<\/strong> and their organisations rather than through top-down approaches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><strong>About Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST) Partnership<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>FAST is a <strong>multi-stakeholder initiative and partnership<\/strong> that aims to catalyze and accelerate the <strong>transformation of agriculture and food systems by 2030 for people, climate, and nature.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Launch<\/strong>: It was <strong>launched at COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, in 2022<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hosted By:<\/strong> It is hosted <strong>by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Core Objective:<\/strong> It seeks to increase the quantity and quality of climate finance for transforming agrifood systems, support adaptation efforts, and maintain a 1.5-degree pathway while ensuring food and economic security.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Three Pillars of FAST:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Access to Finance:<\/strong> It enhances country capacities to identify and access climate finance and investment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Knowledge and Capacity:<\/strong> It develops analyses and voluntary guidelines and supports capacity development across stakeholders.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Policy Support and Dialogue<\/strong>: It ensures that agrifood systems are fully embedded and prioritized in climate change policies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Turkey and FAO introduced the Turquoise Nexus Initiative ahead of COP31 to promote integrated food-water-climate approaches in climate commitments.
