<\/strong>were Indian <strong>revolutionaries<\/strong> who <strong>took up armed resistance against British<\/strong> colonial rule.\n<ul>\n<li>They hold a unique place in India\u2019s freedom struggle as <strong>three brothers who were executed for their role in the fight against British rule.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Early Life:<\/strong> The brothers belonged to the <strong>Chapekar community<\/strong> from the <strong>Konkan region.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Their <strong>father, Haripant Chapekar,<\/strong> was a <strong>well-known kirtankar<\/strong> who <strong>later moved the family to Sadashiv Peth in Pune<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inspired By: <\/strong>Chapekar brothers were inspired by the <strong>stories of Ram and Krishna.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Patriotic Influence:<\/strong> The brothers were <strong>strongly influenced by the armed struggle of Vasudev Balwant Phadke<\/strong> against British interests.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Followers of:<\/strong> The brothers were ardent <strong>followers of Lokmanya Tilak<\/strong> and regularly <strong>read his newspaper &#8216;Kesari&#8217;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Provocation:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Plague Crisis in Pune: <\/strong>On <strong>October 2,<\/strong> <strong>1896, Pune recorded its first plague cases.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Within four months, 271 people died and 308 people were infected, leading the <strong>British administration to adopt stringent plague-control measures.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Insensitive British Measures<\/strong>: Under <strong>Walter Charles Rand,<\/strong> British soldiers <strong>entered private homes during plague inspections<\/strong>, violating the sanctity of kitchens and home temples.\n<ul>\n<li>They also <strong>made men and women stand in public and bare parts of their bodies for plague examinations<\/strong>, which many people found humiliating and horrifying.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Assassination:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Planning and Warning:<\/strong> The brothers <strong>planned to assassinate Rand during Queen Victoria\u2019s Diamond Jubilee<\/strong> celebrations on June 22, 1897, and <strong>sent him a warning letter before the attack.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Attack on June 22, 1897:<\/strong> Due to confusion in the dark, <strong>Balkrishna first<\/strong> attacked a carriage carrying <strong>Lieutenant Charles Ayerst,<\/strong> who <strong>died<\/strong> immediately. <strong>Damodar then attacked Rand<\/strong>, who later died on July 3, 1897.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Betrayal<\/strong>: The police were led to the brothers by <strong>Ganesh Shankar Dravid and Ramchandra Shankar Dravid.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Trial<\/strong>: After their arrest, the Chapekar brothers were <strong>tried and sentenced to death.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Executions<\/strong>: <strong>Damodar<\/strong> was hanged on <strong>April 18, 1898<\/strong>, <strong>Vasudeo<\/strong> on <strong>May 8, 1898,<\/strong> and <strong>Balkrishna on May 12, 1898<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Contribution to the Freedom Movement:<\/strong> Their sacrifice <strong>inspired later revolutionaries, and a young Vinayak Damodar Savarkar<\/strong> took an oath to continue their unfinished revolutionary work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:\u00a0On June 22, 1897, the Chapekar brothers attacked Walter Charles Rand during Queen Victoria\u2019s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Pune.
