News:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Department of School Education and Literacy, under the Ministry of Education, is inviting online applications and nominations for the National Teachers Awards 2026.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

About National Teachers Awards 2026<\/h2>\n

Aspects\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\nDetails<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
About<\/strong><\/td>\nIt seeks to recognize the outstanding contribution of teachers<\/strong> towards improving the quality of school education and promoting the holistic development<\/strong> of students.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nodal Ministry<\/b><\/td>\nThe awards are conferred by<\/span> the Department of School Education and Literacy, <\/b>under the Ministry of Education.<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
First Instituted<\/b><\/td>\n They were first<\/span> instituted in the year 1958.<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Frequency<\/b><\/td>\nThey are<\/span>\u00a0conferred annually<\/b> on 5th September (Teacher\u2019s Day)<\/strong> to honour teachers who have <\/span>demonstrated excellence, innovation and commitment in the field of school education.<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Eligibility<\/b><\/td>\n\n
    \n
  • \u00a0Teachers <\/b>working in <\/span>schools managed by the Central Government, State Governments, Union Territory administrations, local bodies, and aided or private schools affiliated with recognized education boards<\/b> are eligible to apply, subject to the prescribed guidelines.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Note: <\/b>Only regular Teachers<\/strong> and Heads of Schools<\/strong> with a minimum of ten years of service are eligible.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Not eligible<\/b><\/td>\nE<\/strong>ducational administrators, inspectors of education, and the staff of training Institutes, teacher\/Headmaster who are indulged in tuitions,\u00a0 Contractual teachers and shiksha mitras<\/b> are not eligible.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Categories<\/strong><\/td>\n\n
    \n
  • \u00a0<\/b>It<\/span> is<\/span> conferred on the exemplary teachers\/faculty members of higher education institutions and Polytechnics<\/b> as per the following categories:<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Category I:<\/b> It includes teachers of Higher Educational Institutions<\/strong>:<\/span>\n
      \n
    • Sub-category (i):<\/strong> Engineering & Technology, Architecture.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Sub-category (ii):<\/strong> Pure Sciences including Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Sub-category (iii):<\/strong> Arts and Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Legal Studies, Commerce, Management.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Category II:<\/b> It includes teachers of Polytechnic Institutions.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Criteria for the Selection process<\/b><\/td>\n\n
    \n
  • For the selection process, teachers will be evaluated on two types of criteria<\/strong>:<\/span>\n
      \n
    • Objection Criteria: <\/b>Under this, the teachers will be awarded marks against each of the objective criteria. <\/span>\n
        \n
      • Weightage<\/strong>: These criteria are given a weightage of 10 out of 100.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Performance against criteria: <\/b>Under this, th<\/span>e teachers will be awarded marks on criteria based on performance for exemplary initiatives to improve learning outcomes, <\/b>innovative experiments undertaken, organisation of extra and co-curricular activities, use of teaching learning material, social mobility, ensuring experiential learning, unique ways to ensure physical education to students, etc.<\/span>\n
          \n
        • Weightage<\/strong>: <\/b><\/span>These criteria are given the<\/span> weightage of 90 out of 100.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • The National Level Independent Jury will<\/span> submit its recommendations to the Hon\u2019ble Education Minister for acceptance and final approval. <\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
