News: <\/strong>In a landmark step towards accelerating India’s efforts to combat anemia, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare released Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) Abhiyaan \u2013 Operational Guidelines.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

About<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is a flagship health initiative<\/strong> of the Government aimed at eliminating anemia from the country.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Launched by<\/strong><\/td>\nIt was launched in 2018 \u00a0by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Objective<\/strong><\/td>\nTo reduce the prevalence of anemia among children, adolescents and women in the reproductive age group(15\u201349 years)<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Implementation\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n\n
    \n
  • It is implemented across all villages, blocks, and districts in every State and Union Territory<\/strong> of India<\/strong> through existing service delivery platforms.\n

    • It is carried out under the National Iron Plus Initiative (NIPI) and the Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFS) programme<\/strong> to prevent and reduce iron deficiency anemia, especially among adolescents aged 10\u201319 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Key feature<\/strong><\/td>\nIt includes a 6x6x6 strategy<\/strong> under which there are six interventions\u00a0<\/strong>to reduce the\u00a0prevalence of anemia (nutritional and non-nutritional) in six age groups<\/strong>\u00a0–\u00a0pre-school children (6-59 months), children (5-9 years), adolescent girls and boys (10-19 years), pregnant women, lactating women, and women of reproductive age (15-49 years)\u00a0following a life cycle approach.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Six interventions<\/strong><\/td>\n\n

  • Prophylactic Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Deworming<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Intensified year-round BCC campaign promoting four key behaviors:<\/strong>\n
      \n
    • Improved compliance with Iron Folic Acid supplementation and deworming<\/li>\n
    • Appropriate infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices<\/li>\n
    • Increased consumption of iron-rich and fortified foods through diverse, frequent diets using locally available resources<\/li>\n
    • Delayed cord clamping (3 minutes after birth) in health facilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Testing and treatment of anemia<\/strong>, using digital methods and point-of-care treatment,<\/strong> with special focus on pregnant women and school-going adolescents<\/li>\n
    • Mandatory provision of Iron and Folic Acid fortified foods<\/strong> in government-funded public health programs<\/li>\n
    • Intensifying awareness, screening, and treatment of non-nutritional<\/strong> causes of anemia in endemic pockets, with special focus on malaria, haemoglobinopathies, and fluorosis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
