SDSN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>SDG Index 2026<\/strong> is an <strong>annual assessment<\/strong> that measures <strong>countries\u2019 progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Publisher<\/strong>: It was released by the <strong>UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Assessment<\/strong>: The index assesses SDG progress for <strong>193 UN member states<\/strong> using an SDG <strong>score on a 0\u2013100 scale.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>However, <strong>169 countries are ranked in the 2026 edition<\/strong> (including <strong>first-time entrants Eritrea and Timor-Leste<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>For the First Time:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Retroactively calculated SDG Index<\/strong> rankings have been introduced, allowing year-to-year comparison using the same indicators and thresholds.<\/li>\n<li>The report has <strong>refined the headline SDG Index (SDGhi)<\/strong> by using <strong>one indicator for each SDG <\/strong>to reduce statistical bias from missing time-series data.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>new Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) indicator<\/strong> on <strong>productive and sustainable agriculture<\/strong> has been added to strengthen the assessment of SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Findings and Performance (2026):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Global Performance:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>2030 Goal Status:<\/strong> <strong>None of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is on track<\/strong> to be achieved globally by 2030, and <strong>only 16.5% of the SDG targets are progressing on track<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"438\" data-end=\"681\"><strong>Major Global Challenges<\/strong>: <strong>SDG 11, SDG 14, SDG 15, and SDG 16 remain the furthest off track<\/strong>,\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"438\" data-end=\"681\">while the <strong>weakest-performing indicators<\/strong> are mainly related to <strong>SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 16<\/strong> (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"682\" data-end=\"954\"><strong>Global Rankings:<\/strong> <strong>Finland, followed by Sweden and Denmark, topped the 2026 SDG Index,<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"682\" data-end=\"954\">while <strong>Chad, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan ranked at the bottom<\/strong> due to conflict, political instability, security issues, and limited fiscal space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>India&#8217;s Performance:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"986\" data-end=\"1153\"><strong>Highest-ever Ranking: <\/strong>India secured its <strong>highest-ever rank of 94th among 167 countries<\/strong> with an <strong>SDG score of 68.3,<\/strong> improving from 99th in 2025.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1154\" data-end=\"1359\"><strong>Strong Improvement:<\/strong> Since 2015, India has climbed 18 places, making it one of the fastest-improving major economies, although it <strong>remains behind Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1360\" data-end=\"1674\" data-is-last-node=\"\"><strong>Key Challenges<\/strong>: India faces <strong>challenges in 13 of the 17 SDGs<\/strong>, and <strong>only 33.3% of its SDG targets are likely to be achieved by 2030.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1360\" data-end=\"1674\" data-is-last-node=\"\"><strong>SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) remains the biggest concern,<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1360\" data-end=\"1674\" data-is-last-node=\"\">while <strong>progress has been made in electricity access (SDG 7) and mobile broadband and internet use (SDG 9).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:\u00a0India achieved its highest-ever rank of 94th in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index 2026, improving from 99th in 2025.
