BL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lavender<\/strong> is a <strong>small, perennial aromatic herb shrub<\/strong> of the <strong>mint family (Lamiaceae)<\/strong>, that is mainly grown for its flowers and essential oil.\n<ul>\n<li>It was <strong>introduced in the temperate regions of Jammu &amp; Kashmir<\/strong> under the <strong>CSIR Aroma Mission.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Aspects:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Climate<\/strong>: Lavender grows in <strong>temperate areas and is a drought-resistant crop.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Life Cycle:<\/strong> A single lavender <strong>plant bears flowers for up to 15 years,<\/strong> requires minimal maintenance, and can be <strong>harvested from the second year onward.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Propagation<\/strong>: Lavender can be <strong>propagated through seeds, rooted cuttings, tissue culture, and layering.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Applications<\/strong>: Lavender is used for <strong>food and flavouring, pharmaceutical and therapeutic, cosmetic, and industrial purposes.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution in India<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Lavender cultivation is practiced in almost <strong>all the 20 districts of Jammu &amp; Kashmir.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The successful model has also <strong>expanded to Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Nagaland<\/strong> through the CSIR Aroma Mission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><strong>About Aroma Mission<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Launched by:<\/strong> The <strong>Union Ministry of Science &amp; Technology<\/strong> launched the <strong>Purple or Lavender Revolution in 2016<\/strong> through the <strong>CSIR Aroma Mission.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Led by:<\/strong> The mission is led by the <strong>Council of Scientific &amp; Industrial Research (CSIR),<\/strong> with <strong>CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP), Lucknow, as the nodal laboratory.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Also Known As:<\/strong> The initiative is also known as the <strong>Purple or Lavender Revolution.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: The mission <strong>aims<\/strong> to <strong>support a domestic aromatic crop-based agro economy<\/strong> by promoting homegrown aromatic oils and transforming the aroma sector through agriculture, processing and product development.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Farmer Support:<\/strong> The mission provides <strong>free quality lavender planting material to first-time farmers and supports<\/strong> the cultivation of aromatic crops.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Value Chain Development:<\/strong> The mission <strong>promotes agriculture, processing, product development, technology support, skill development, and market linkages<\/strong> to strengthen the aroma sector and rural employment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Phased Implementation<\/strong>: The mission has been implemented in <strong>two phases\u2014Phase-I and Phase-II, with Phase-II launched on 9 February 2021.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:\u00a0The Union Government and Nagaland discussed expanding lavender cultivation and agri-entrepreneurship under the CSIR Aroma Mission across the State.
