ToI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Employees\u2019 Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme, 2026<\/strong>\u00a0is <strong>India\u2019s new statutory provident fund framework<\/strong> replacing the <strong>Employees\u2019 Provident Funds Scheme, 1952.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Notified under:<\/strong> The EPF Scheme, 2026 has been <strong>notified under the Code on Social Security, 2020.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ministry involved:<\/strong> The scheme is administered by the <strong>Ministry of Labour and Employment.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Executive Authority:<\/strong> The <strong>Employees\u2019 Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is the executive authority<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: The scheme aims to <strong>provide financial security and retirement savings<\/strong> while <strong>implementing the Code on Social Security, 2020<\/strong> through a modernized provident fund framework.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Contribution Provisions<\/strong>: Employer and employee contributions <strong>continue at 12% of wages<\/strong>, while certain <strong>notified establishments continue with a 10% contribution rate.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mandatory contributions apply only up to the statutory wage ceiling.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Voluntary Higher Contributions:<\/strong> Employees <strong>may voluntarily contribute<\/strong> on wages above the statutory wage ceiling or at a rate <strong>higher than 12%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Simplified Withdrawal Rules<\/strong>: The <strong>earlier 13 withdrawal <\/strong>categories have been <strong>consolidated into three categories<\/strong>\u2014<strong>essential needs, housing needs, and special circumstances<\/strong>\u2014to simplify partial withdrawals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Withdrawal and Minimum Balance:<\/strong> Members can <strong>withdraw funds for illness, education, marriage, and housing<\/strong> after <strong>completing 12 months<\/strong> of membership, <strong>subject to the prescribed withdrawal limits<\/strong> and while <strong>maintaining a minimum balance of 25% of total<\/strong> contributions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Protection for Contract Workers:<\/strong> The scheme introduces the <strong>concept of the principal employer.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Even if a contractor makes the provident fund payment<\/strong>, the <strong>principal employer remains ultimately responsible<\/strong> for ensuring provident fund contributions are deposited.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Greater Digitalization:<\/strong> The scheme formally recognizes digital systems such as <strong>online filing of employer returns, digital member accounts, electronic claim processing, electronic records, and electronic annual statements<\/strong> to improve provident fund administration.\n<ul>\n<li>The scheme gives <strong>greater emphasis to Aadhaar-linked UAN and digital compliance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><strong>About EPFO<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Employees\u2019 Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO)<\/strong> is a <strong>statutory body<\/strong> that <strong>administers social security schemes for employees.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Establishment<\/strong>: It was established <strong>under the Employees\u2019 Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective<\/strong>: It aims to provide retirement security, pension benefits, insurance protection, and financial support during emergencies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Structure<\/strong>: EPFO functions <strong>under the Ministry of Labour and Employment<\/strong> and is <strong>administered by the Central Board of Trustees<\/strong> with representatives of government, employers, and employees.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schemes<\/strong>: EPFO administers the <strong>Employees\u2019 Provident Fund Scheme, Employees\u2019 Pension Scheme, and Employees\u2019 Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:\u00a0The Ministry of Labour and Employment has notified the New EPF Scheme, 2026 under the Code on Social Security, 2020, effective from June 29.
