Research.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>National Innovation Challenge<\/strong> for students<strong> to build smarter drones powered by an Indian-made chip.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is under<strong> SwaYaan initiative-<\/strong> Capacity Building for Human Resource Development in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drone and Allied Technologies).<\/li>\n<li>This <strong>2026-27 edition<\/strong> is the<strong> second edition of the challenge<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>first edition of NIDAR 2025-26 was launched in March 2025. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Participation:<\/strong> It drew <strong>3,448 students from 22 States, 4 Union Territories and 109 cities,<\/strong> who built autonomous drone solutions for Disaster Management and Precision Agriculture.<\/li>\n<li>Ninety-three teams reached the Grand Finale, of which <strong>Twenty-four teams won prizes worth a total of Rs. 40 Lakh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal Ministry: <\/strong>It has been hosted by <strong>Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with Drone Federation India (DFI)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It moves the focus from<strong> conventional airframes to autonomous systems, indigenous avionics and core drone components.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Two tracks:<\/strong> The challenge runs across two tracks.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Track 1, Drone Innovation:<\/strong> It tasks student teams with building<strong>\u00a0fully autonomous swarm drones<\/strong> that can locate survivors and deliver medical parcels in a disaster zone without any external communication network.\n<ul>\n<li>It also challenges teams <strong>to develop a GPS-denied drone<\/strong> capable of navigating confined indoor spaces for industrial inspection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Track 2, Component Innovation:<\/strong> It\u00a0challenges team<strong>s to design an indigenous flight controller and autopilot<\/strong> built around the VEGA processor, using indigenous electronic components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>After technical evaluation, <strong>the top 100 teams will each receive two VEGA processors kits for development, testing and integration.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>About VEGA processor:<\/strong> It is a <strong>family of indigenous microprocessors designed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)<\/strong> under MeitY&#8217;s Microprocessor Development Programme, based on the<strong> open-standard RISC-V architecture.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>By placing this processor at the centre of the Component Innovation track, NIDAR 2.0 encourages students to build the control systems of Indian drones on Indian-made chips.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prizes:<\/strong> It offers a<strong> cash prize<\/strong> of <strong>over Rs 65 lakh.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Winning teams will also<strong> receive corporate internships, incubation support and cloud computing credits<\/strong> to help turn their prototypes into commercial products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">About SwaYaan Initiative<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>About:<\/strong> The SwaYaan Initiative is a <strong>national capacity building for Human Resource Development in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drone and Allied Technologies).\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal Ministry:<\/strong> The SwaYaan initiative was approved by <strong>Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in July 2022.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Budget Outlay:<\/strong> It has an outlay of about<strong> Rs 89.87 crore over five years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> It aims<strong> to build the skilled workforce needed for India&#8217;s drone sector.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Platform:<\/strong> <strong>NIDAR<\/strong> is its flagship innovation platform.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It runs t<strong>hrough a Hub-and-Spoke model<\/strong> of 30 premier institutions, including IISc, IITs, IIITs, NITs, C-DAC and NIELIT, across<strong> five work themes:<\/strong> <strong>Aeromechanics, Drone Electronics, GNC Algorithms and Simulation, Drone Applications, and Allied UAS Technologies. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The project has trained more than 51,000 people so far.<\/li>\n<li>It has also<strong> supported M.Tech and minor degree programmes,<\/strong> retrofitting
