
{"id":367715,"date":"2026-07-18T14:51:47","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T09:21:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=367715"},"modified":"2026-07-18T14:51:47","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T09:21:47","slug":"sushruta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sushruta\/","title":{"rendered":"Sushruta"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-box-green\">\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong> The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu inaugurated &#8216;Saushrutam 2026&#8217; at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi on Sushruta Jayanti.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">About Sushruta<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/akm-img-a-in.tosshub.com\/indiatoday\/images\/story\/201907\/statue-dedicated-to-Sushruta.jpeg?resize=400%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Sushruta\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: India Today<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>Sushruta was a <strong>distinguished surgeon who flourished around 600 BCE<\/strong> in the<strong> ancient city of Kashi, India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He is believed to be the <strong>son of a sage Vishwamitra and disciple of guru Divodas or Dhanvantari, the King of Kashi.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He is widely regarded as the<strong> &#8216;Father of Indian Medicine&#8217;<\/strong> and <strong>&#8216;Father of Plastic Surgery&#8217;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He was among the <strong>first in history to advocate for the use of human dissection to teach surgery students about anatomy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He introduced <strong>new techniques<\/strong> in various fields such as <strong>plastic surgery, cataract surgery, treatment of tumours and ENT surgery.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Literary work:<\/strong> He is known for<strong> his pioneering operations and techniques and for his influential treatise &#8216;Sushruta Samhita&#8217;<\/strong> or <strong>Compendium of Sushruta <\/strong>which is\u00a0the main <strong>source of knowledge about surgery in ancient India.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It forms the <strong>foundations of the ancient Hindu form of medicine<\/strong> known as<strong> Ayurveda<\/strong> and is highly regarded as<strong> one of the &#8216;Great Trilogy of Ayurvedic Medicine.&#8217;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It was written in <strong>Sanskrit.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the eighth century AD, <strong>Sushruta Samhita was translated into Arabic as &#8216;Kitab Shah Shun al -Hindi&#8217; and &#8216;Kitab-I-Susurud.&#8217;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Other contribution:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Besides trauma involving general surgery, <strong>Sushruta gave an in-depth account of the treatment of\u00a012 varieties of fracture\u00a0and six types of dislocation.<\/strong> This continues to spellbind orthopedic surgeons even today.<\/li>\n<li>He mentioned t<strong>he principles of traction, manipulation, apposition, stabilization, and postoperative physiotherapy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He also prescribed<strong> measures to induce growth of lost hair<\/strong> and removal of unwanted hair.<\/li>\n<li>He <strong>implored surgeons to achieve perfect healing<\/strong> which is characterized by the absence of any elevation, induration, swelling mass, and the return of normal coloring.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Legacy: <\/strong><span data-subtree=\"aimfl,mfl\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: &quot;Google Sans&quot;, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\"><strong>Sushruta Jayanti<\/strong> is celebrated<strong> annually on<\/strong><\/span><strong> July 15th<\/strong> to honor Acharya Sushruta.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu inaugurated &#8216;Saushrutam 2026&#8217; at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi on Sushruta Jayanti.
