{"id":367873,"date":"2026-07-21T15:40:36","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T10:10:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=367873"},"modified":"2026-07-21T15:40:36","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T10:10:36","slug":"batukeshwar-dutt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/batukeshwar-dutt\/","title":{"rendered":"Batukeshwar Dutt"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-box-green\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>News:<\/strong> Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh have paid tribute to revolutionary and freedom fighter Batukeshwar Dutt on his death anniversary.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>About Batukeshwar Dutt<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 380px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newsonair.gov.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Rohit-Sharma-2.png?resize=380%2C246&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\" Batukeshwar Dutt \" width=\"380\" height=\"246\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: News on Air<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Batukeshwar Dutt was an <strong>Indian revolutionary in the early 1900s. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">He was also<strong> known as BK Dutta.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Birth:<\/strong> He was <strong>born on November 18, 1910,<\/strong> in the <strong>Bardhaman district of Bengal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Early life:<\/strong> Patriotism and love for Indian culture were deeply ingrained in him from childhood, values he inherited from his family.\n<ul>\n<li>He was affectionately called <strong>Mohan<\/strong> and <strong>Battu<\/strong> during his early years.<\/li>\n<li>His father, <strong>Bihari Dutt<\/strong>, was engaged in social service, while his mother, <strong>Kamini Devi<\/strong>, was a homemaker rooted in traditional values.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Influence:<\/strong> During his high school years, he came into contact with revolutionaries <strong>Surendranath Pandey<\/strong> and <strong>Vijay Kumar Sinha<\/strong>, who inspired him to join the revolutionary movement.\n<ul>\n<li>His decision was influenced<strong> by his family\u2019s nationalist values and by witnessing a British soldier mercilessly<\/strong> beat an innocent Indian child on Kanpur\u2019s Mall Road.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Activities:<\/strong> He joined the <strong>Hindustan Republican Association (HRA)<\/strong> through <strong>Suresh Chandra Bhattacharya<\/strong>, the editor of <em>Pratap<\/em>.\n<ul>\n<li>He developed a close association with <strong>Bhagat Singh<\/strong> and met <strong>Chandrashekhar Azad<\/strong> in <strong>1924<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>After the <strong>Kakori Conspiracy Case<\/strong>, he moved <strong>first to Bihar and later to Calcutta.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In <strong>1927<\/strong>, the <strong>Hindustan Republican Association<\/strong> was reorganised and renamed the <strong>Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Within the organisation, he received specialised training in bomb-making and became one of its most skilled experts.<\/li>\n<li>Many of the bombs used by revolutionaries during that period were <strong>either manufactured by him or by young revolutionaries trained under his guidance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He stood alongside <strong>Bhagat Singh<\/strong> in the <strong>1929 Assembly Bomb Case<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>He became a household name after the <strong>Central Legislative Assembly Bomb Case of 1929<\/strong>, in which <strong>he and Bhagat Singh threw non-lethal bombs inside the Assembly to protest<\/strong> against repressive British laws.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Later life:<\/strong> While Bhagat Singh was sentenced to death, Batukeshwar Dutt was awarded <strong>life imprisonment<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>He was imprisoned in the <strong>Cellular Jail (Kala Pani)<\/strong> in the Andaman Islands and later shifted to <strong>Hazaribagh, Delhi, and Bankipur jails<\/strong>. During his imprisonment, he endured severe torture that permanently damaged his health.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>1938<\/strong>, he was released on the condition that he would abstain from political activities.<\/li>\n<li>He later joined <strong>Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s non-violent movement<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>During the <strong>Quit India Movement of 1942<\/strong>, he was arrested again and was finally released in <strong>1945<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>1958<\/strong>, he received formal recognition and was nominated to the <strong>Bihar Legislative Council<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Death: He passed away on July 20, 1965.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Legacy:<\/strong> He is remembered <strong>for his fearless role in India\u2019s freedom struggle<\/strong> alongside Bhagat Singh and for the hardships he endured even after Independence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh have paid tribute to revolutionary and freedom fighter Batukeshwar Dutt on his death anniversary.
