{"id":367974,"date":"2026-07-22T14:53:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T09:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=367974"},"modified":"2026-07-22T14:53:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T09:23:43","slug":"updated-index-of-core-industries-ici","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/updated-index-of-core-industries-ici\/","title":{"rendered":"Updated Index of Core Industries (ICI)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-box-green\">\n<p><strong>News: <\/strong>The Union Government has released an updated series of its\u00a0Index of Core Industries (ICI).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">About Updated Index of Core Industries (ICI)<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_367986\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-367986\" style=\"width: 464px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-367986\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Source-IE-3.jpg?resize=464%2C260&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Updated Index of Core Industries (ICI)\" width=\"464\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Source-IE-3.jpg?resize=300%2C168&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Source-IE-3.jpg?resize=768%2C431&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Source-IE-3.jpg?w=874&amp;ssl=1 874w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-367986\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source &#8211; IE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Index of Eight Core Industries(ICI)<\/strong> measures <strong>combined and individual performance<\/strong> of production of <strong>eight (now nine)<\/strong> core industries viz. <strong>Coal, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Refinery Products, Fertilizers, Steel, Cement and Electricity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Updated Version Recommended by:<\/strong> The new changes made in the ICI are based on the <strong>recommendations of a committee constituted<\/strong> under the <strong>chairmanship of\u00a0Praveen Mahto\u00a0in November 2025.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Changes made:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Expansion of the Index of Core Industries (ICI):<\/strong> In the updated <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/combined-index-of-eight-core-industries-increases-by-8-0-provisional-in-july-2023-as-compared-to-the-index-of-july-2022\/\">Index of Core Industries (ICI)<\/a><strong> the number of core industries increased to nine\u00a0following the\u00a0inclusion of iron ore<\/strong>\u00a0to the <strong>existing eight &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement, and electricity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Revision in Steel Index Compilation:<\/strong> Gross production data<strong> has been used for compilation of the Steel index in the new ICI series,<\/strong> replacing the use of net production data in ICI (2011-12) series, to make it consistent with <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/iip\/\">Index of Industrial Production (IIP)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Rationalization of Coal Coverage:<\/strong> Only <strong>Raw Coal has been retained in the new series of ICI,<\/strong> by excluding <strong>Coal Middling and Washed Coal in order to remove double counting.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Methodology for Weight Assignment:<\/strong> Following the earlier practice<strong>, the weights of the ICI (2022\u201323) series have been derived from the weights of the corresponding items of IIP (2022\u201323) series,<\/strong> which have been <strong>pro-rata distributed to 100.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>In line with the methodology, used for derivation of Linking Factor in IIP (2022-23) series, <strong>the linking factor between ICI (2011-12) and ICI (2022-23) series has also been calculated using the following formula: &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Linking Factor=\u00a0Geometric Mean of the monthly ICI<\/strong> of <strong>old series for 2022-23<\/strong>\/ <strong>Geometric Mean of the monthly ICI of new series for 2022-23<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Accordingly, <strong>Linking Factor for Overall Index of Core Industries is 1.47.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The users may calculate the linking factor for the respective sectors by applying the same formula.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Union Government has released an updated series of its\u00a0Index of Core Industries (ICI).
