\u2018khar\u2019 or kharta<\/strong> meaning &#8216;<strong>sin&#8217;<\/strong> and <strong>\u2018chi\u2019 or si meaning &#8216;cleaning&#8217;<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is observed on the<strong> eighth day of the new moon in July or August every year.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Deities worshiped:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The<\/span><b> Chaturdasa Devata are the 14 ancestral deities of the Tripuri people<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, central to the Kharchi Puja festival.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These deities, including<\/span><b> Shiva, Vishnu, Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Kartik, are worshipped with great reverence.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"8m4p0y\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"127\">It is believed that <strong data-start=\"22\" data-end=\"41\">Tripura Sundari<\/strong>, the presiding deity of Tripura, menstruates during <strong data-start=\"94\" data-end=\"107\">Ambubachi<\/strong> (observed in June).\n<ul>\n<li data-section-id=\"h8oc33\" data-start=\"128\" data-end=\"332\" data-is-last-node=\"\">According to tradition, t<strong>he Earth becomes impure during this period, and Kharchi Puja is performed to ritually purify the Earth<\/strong> and cleanse it of people&#8217;s sins after the Goddess&#8217;s menstruation ends.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Rituals performed during festivals: <\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An important ritual of the festival is the<strong> construction of <\/strong>the<strong>\u00a0Chaturdasha Mandapa, <\/strong>which <strong>symbolises the royal palace of the Tripuri kings<\/strong> and is constructed by\u00a0<strong>traditional artisans<\/strong>\u00a0who craft the structure out of <strong>bamboo<\/strong> and thatched roofs.<\/li>\n<li>On the day of the main puja, the<strong> idols of all the 14 deities from the ancient Ujjayanta Palace <\/strong>are carried by the royal priest<strong>\u00a0Chantai\u00a0<\/strong>from the temple premises in Agartala to the<strong> holy Saidra river<\/strong> where they are <strong>dipped in the holy waters<\/strong> of the river and carried back to the temple.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>idols<\/strong> are then adorned with<strong> different flowers, traditional attires, ornaments, and vermillion paste.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>After this, different varieties of <strong>sweets are distributed<\/strong> to the devotees as \u2018prasad\u2019.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1htpdyl\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"152\">The festival is marked by <strong data-start=\"28\" data-end=\"106\">vibrant folk dances, traditional music, and performances by local artistes<\/strong>, showcasing Tripura&#8217;s rich cultural heritage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Cultural Fairs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span>A <strong data-start=\"157\" data-end=\"171\">grand fair<\/strong> is also <strong>organized alongside the festival,<\/strong> where cultural programmes and traditional performances are held throughout the days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Tripura Chief Minister inaugurated the week-long Kharchi Puja, one of the state\u2019s largest and most significant religious and cultural festivals.\u00a0 About Kharchi Puja It is week- long, annual Puja held at old Agartala in Tripura.\u00a0 It is also called the \u2018Festival of 14 Gods\u2019.
