countries<\/strong><\/b>across\u00a0Africa,\u00a0Asia, the\u00a0Pacific Islands,\u00a0Latin America, and\u00a0the Caribbean.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Features:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <strong>shared scientific data<\/strong> under programme enables participating countries to <strong>monitor their progress<\/strong> bioavailable<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can r<\/span>esist<b> environmental degradation, accumulate in the food chain, and travel long distances <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">across international borders, endangering human health and ecosystems.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>It possess a particular combination of physical and chemical properties<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Properties:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u00a0\u00a0<b>remain intact for exceptionally long periods of time <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(many years);<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It become<\/span><b> widely distributed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">throughout the environment as a result of natural processes involving soil, water and, most notably, air;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>It accumulate in the living organisms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including humans, and are found at higher concentrations at higher levels in the food chain; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <strong>toxic to both humans and wildlife.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most commonly encountered POPs are <\/span><b>organochlorine pesticides, such as DDT, industrial chemicals, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) as well as unintentional by-products of many industrial processes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, especially polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD) and dibenzofurans (PCDF), commonly known as dioxins.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Effect of POP: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its effect include <\/span><b>cancer, allergies and hypersensitivity, damage to the central and peripheral nervous systems, reproductive disorders, and disruption of the immune
