PIB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Released by:<\/strong> It is released by the <strong>International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>IIPS is the <strong>nodal agency<\/strong> designated by <strong>the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW)<\/strong> for coordination and technical guidance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Survey Period:<\/strong> NFHS-6 was conducted <strong>during 2023\u201324.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Key features of NFHS-6:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Coverage:<\/strong> The survey <strong>covered 6.79 lakh households<\/strong> across <strong>715 districts,<\/strong> <strong>excluding Manipur.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>New Areas:<\/strong> It included <strong>Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), digital literacy, digital financial transactions.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u00a0 <strong>expanded \u00a0clinical, anthropometric, and biochemical (CAB) testing, including HIV testing.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Technology:<\/strong> It <strong>fully adopted Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI)<\/strong> for real-time data validation and improved accuracy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Findings of NFHS-6 (Comparison between NFHS-5: 2019\u201321 and NFHS-6: 2023\u201324)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maternal Health<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Institutional Deliveries:<\/strong> Institutional deliveries <strong>increased from 88.6% to 90.6%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Antenatal Care (ANC):<\/strong> ANC coverage <strong>increased from 92.6% to 95.9%,<\/strong> while <strong>mothers receiving at least four ANC visits increased from 58.5% to 65.2%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Skilled Birth Attendance:<\/strong> Births attended by skilled health personnel <strong>increased from 89.4% to 91.3%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Family Planning<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR):<\/strong> CPR <strong>increased from 66.7% to 69.1%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Unmet Need:<\/strong> The unmet need for family planning <strong>declined from 9.4% to 8.5%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Total Fertility Rate (TFR):<\/strong> TFR remained <strong>stable at 2.0,<\/strong> which is <strong>below the replacement level of 2.1.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Child Health and Nutrition<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Full Immunisation:<\/strong> Coverage among <strong>children aged 12\u201323<\/strong> months <strong>increased from 83.8% to 87.1%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Vaccination:<\/strong> Coverage of the <strong>second dose of the measles<\/strong>-containing vaccine <strong>increased from 58.6% to 71.8%,<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>while <strong>rotavirus vaccine<\/strong> coverage <strong>increased from 36.4% to 85.4%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nutrition:<\/strong> <strong>Stunting declined from 35.5% to 29.3%<\/strong>,\n<ul>\n<li>while severe <strong>wasting declined from 7.7% to 5.2%<\/strong> <strong>among children under five years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lifestyle Diseases<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"227\" data-end=\"338\"><strong>Obesity: 30.7% of women<\/strong> and <strong>27.3% of men aged 15\u201349<\/strong> years <strong>were overweight or obese.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"339\" data-end=\"516\"><strong>High Blood Sugar:<\/strong> The proportion of <strong>adults with high blood sugar increased from 13.5% to 17.8%<\/strong> <strong>among women<\/strong> and from <strong>15.6% to 20.9% among men above 15 years of age.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"517\" data-end=\"685\"><strong>Hypertension: <\/strong>The proportion of <strong>adults with hypertension declined from 21.3% to 19.4%<\/strong> <strong>among women<\/strong> and from <strong>24.0% to 22.1% among men above 15 years of age.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">About National Family Health Survey (NFHS)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>National Family Health Survey (NFHS)<\/strong>\u00a0is a <strong>large-scale, multi-round survey conducted<\/strong> on a <strong>representative<\/strong> <strong>sample of households across India. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Origin:<\/strong> It was <strong>launched in 1992\u201393<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong> It provides <strong>district-level data on health and family welfare<\/strong> for evidence-based policymaking and programme implementation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: India recorded improvements in maternal and child health, while NFHS-6 reported a rise in lifestyle-related diseases among adults.
