{"id":368391,"date":"2026-07-28T15:51:04","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T10:21:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=368391"},"modified":"2026-07-28T15:51:04","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T10:21:04","slug":"chandipura-virus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/chandipura-virus\/","title":{"rendered":"Chandipura Virus"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-box-green\">\n<p><b>News: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two children from Rajasthan have died in recent days after testing positive for the Chandipura virus.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><b>About Chandipura Virus<\/b><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 401px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/static.toiimg.com\/thumb\/imgsize-23456%2Cmsid-111847605%2Cwidth-600%2Cresizemode-4\/111847605.jpg?resize=401%2C413&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Chandipura Virus\" width=\"401\" height=\"413\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Times of India<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chandipura Virus is a virus of the<\/span><b> Rhabdoviridae family.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also includes <strong>other members such as the lyssavirus that causes rabies.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>How it is caused: <\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several species of<\/span><b> sandflies, like Phlebotomine sandflies and Phlebotomus papatasi, and some mosquito species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, such as Aedes aegypti (which is also the vector for dengue), are <\/span><b>considered vectors of CHPV.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> virus resides in the salivary glands of these insects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an<\/span><b>d can be transmitted to humans or other vertebrates<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, like domestic animals, <\/span><b>through bites.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>infection caused by the virus can then reach the central nervous system,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which can lead to encephalitis.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Symptoms: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CHPV infection <\/span><b>presents initially with flu-like symptoms, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">such as acute onset of fever, body ache, and headache.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It may <\/span><b>then progress to altered sensorium or seizures <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>encephalitis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Retrospective studies from India have also reported other symptoms such as respiratory distress, bleeding tendencies, or anaemia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The infection often progresses <\/span><b>rapidly after encephalitis, which may then lead to mortality within 24-48 hours of hospitalisation.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Disease progression can be as rapid as a patient reporting high fever in the morning,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and their kidneys or liver being affected by the evening.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Affected age group:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It primarily affects children under 15 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Management<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The infection can only be <\/span><b>symptomatically managed as currently there is no specific antiretroviral therapy or vaccine available<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for treatment.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result, it becomes crucial to manage brain inflammation to prevent mortality.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Two children from Rajasthan have died in recent days after testing positive for the Chandipura virus.
