{"id":368721,"date":"2026-08-01T15:57:28","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T10:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=368721"},"modified":"2026-08-01T15:57:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T10:27:28","slug":"pradhan-mantri-surya-sarovar-yojana-pm-ssy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/pradhan-mantri-surya-sarovar-yojana-pm-ssy\/","title":{"rendered":"Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM-SSY)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-box-green\">\n<p><b>News: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the &#8216;Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM-SSY)\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><b>About Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM-SSY)\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 362px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRB5An8cf0t7iSOZu8TT9pzY8o5jP8YMNUpqQfwIWV2ZbbJ5TUJG27xH6PJ&amp;s=10\" alt=\"Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM-SSY)\" width=\"362\" height=\"408\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: PIB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is\u00a0 a<\/span><b> scheme for the development of Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) Projects <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with Energy Storage Systems (ESS).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Aim: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aimed at <\/span><b>accelerating floating solar power by providing central financial assistance of up to \u20b91 crore per MW for projects installed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on reservoirs and other water bodies.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also designed <\/span><b>to address two of the biggest constraints <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">facing ground-mounted solar projects: <\/span><b>acquiring large contiguous parcels of land and the rising costs associated with rehabilitation and resettlement.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Budget:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It has a total budgetary<\/span><b> outlay of Rs.5,070 crore.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Duration<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It will be<\/span><b> sanctioned during FY 2026-27 to FY 2030-31<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with disbursement of financial support continuing up to FY 2<\/span><b>032-33.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Target:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It targets<\/span><b> 5,000 MW of floating solar capacity by 2030-31.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Coverage: All States and Union Territories <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will benefit through this scheme.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Nodal Ministry:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Nodal ministry for the scheme is <\/span><b>Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Implementing agency: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is to be implemented by the <\/span><b>Solar Energy Corporation of India.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Features:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It envisages the<\/span><b> development of 5,000 MW of Floating Solar Photovoltaic projects <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with co-located Energy Storage Systems having a minimum <\/span><b>storage capacity of two hours i.e.,10,000 MWh.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the scheme, <\/span><b>Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of Rs. One crore per MW will be provided for eligible Floating Solar Photovoltaic projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after successful commissioning.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, <\/span><b>CFA of up to Rs.50 lakh per project will be available for undertaking feasibility studies,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including bathymetry and hydrography assessments, environmental studies, and other preparatory activities required for de-risking the project development.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Expected outcome:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would enhance the<\/span><b> floating Solar PV capacity in the country by 5,000 MW, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which is presently around 700 MW only.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These projects would<\/span><b> provide an opportunity to gainfully utilize existing reservoirs &amp; industrial ponds, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and eliminate competition for scarce land resources.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>integration of an energy storage system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will help strengthen grid reliability. The scheme would help in the <\/span><b>reduction of around 10 million tonnes of CO\u2082 emissions annually.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would help in the <\/span><b>generation of approximately 16,000\u201317,000 full-time equivalent employment opportunities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across the project value chain.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would also<\/span><b> promote domestic manufacturing of floatation systems<\/b> <b>as well as the entire value chain of the projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, like PV cells, modules, energy storage systems, etc., and support the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will contribute <\/span><b>to renewable energy capacity addition, support the achievement of national energy and climate objectives, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and facilitate<\/span><b> optimal utilisation of water resources.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the &#8216;Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM-SSY)\u2019.
