It has<strong> now become the communicable disease with the highest mortality profile.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>: Common symptoms of leptospirosis include <strong>high fever, severe headache, chills, muscle pain, and vomiting.<\/strong> Other symptoms are <strong>jaundice, red eyes, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and skin rashes.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>If left untreated, it can lead to<strong> serious complications such as kidney damage, meningitis<\/strong>, liver failure, respiratory distress, and, in severe cases, death.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment:<\/strong> It is treated with antibiotics. In severe cases, patients may require <strong data-start=\"140\" data-end=\"172\">intravenous (IV) antibiotics<\/strong> to effectively manage the infection and prevent complications.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prevention:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a<strong>dvised to wear waterproof footwear in flooded areas<\/strong> and <strong>wash and dry feet<\/strong> thoroughly after exposure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clean and cover cuts o<\/strong>r wounds promptly.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"ym8b13\" data-start=\"226\" data-end=\"265\"><strong>Control rodent<\/strong>s and maintain hygiene.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1y1vsho\" data-start=\"266\" data-end=\"310\" data-is-last-node=\"\"><strong>Drink safe wate<\/strong>r, especially after floods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Leptospirosis cases and mortality begin surging with the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Kerala.
