ETV Bharat<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>COSPAR Vikram Sarabhai Medal<\/strong>\u00a0is an <strong>international medal<\/strong> that recognizes outstanding <strong>contributions to space research by scientists working for developing countries.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Awarded by:<\/strong> It is awarded <strong>jointly by<\/strong> the <strong>Committee on Space Research (COSPAR)<\/strong> and the <strong>Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Established:<\/strong> The medal was <strong>constituted in 1990 in honour of Vikram Sarabhai<\/strong>, the <strong>founder of India\u2019s space programme.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Frequency:<\/strong> The medal is <strong>presented biennially<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eligibility Requirements:<\/strong> A <strong>candidate\u2019s relevant work<\/strong> must have been carried out mainly <strong>during the five-year period ending one year before the COSPAR Scientific Assembly<\/strong> where the medal is presented.\n<ul>\n<li>The award is <strong>open to candidates from any country.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>2026 Recipient:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"254\" data-end=\"396\"><strong>Awardee:<\/strong> <strong>Annapurni Subramaniam<\/strong> received the COSPAR Vikram Sarabhai Medal \u2013 2026.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"397\" data-end=\"654\"><strong>Contribution:<\/strong> She was recognized for her <strong>work in stellar physics, including studies on star clusters, nearby galaxies, and for serving as the calibration scientist for the Ultra-violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) onboard AstroSat.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"655\" data-end=\"790\"><strong>Significance:<\/strong> She is the <strong>fourth Indian to receive this<\/strong> medal and the <strong>first Indian woman scientist to receive this honour.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"791\" data-end=\"901\" data-is-last-node=\"\">She is <strong>also the third female recipient<\/strong> of the COSPAR Vikram Sarabhai Medal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"791\" data-end=\"901\" data-is-last-node=\"\"><strong>Other Indian Recipients:<\/strong> Other Indian recipients of this medal are <strong>UR Rao (1996), Gurbax Singh Lakhina (2014) and Anil Bharadwaj (2024).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><strong>About<\/strong> <strong>Committee on Space Research (COSPAR)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Committee on Space Research (COSPAR)<\/strong>\u00a0is an <strong>international scientific body<\/strong> affiliated with the <strong>International Science Council (ISC).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Establishment:<\/strong> It was <strong>established in 1958 .<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives:<\/strong> It <strong>promotes<\/strong> scientific <strong>research in space at the international level<\/strong>, encourages the <strong>exchange of scientific results and information,<\/strong> and provides an <strong>open forum for scientists to discuss issues related to space research.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Scientific Assembly:<\/strong> COSPAR <strong>organizes its Scientific Assembly every two years<\/strong>, bringing together about 2,000\u20133,000 scientists from around the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Astrophysicist Annapurni Subramaniam has been awarded the COSPAR Vikram Sarabhai Medal \u2013 2026 for her contributions to space research.
