Kripalini, Sankar Rao Deo, Hare Krushna Mahatab, Prafulla Chandra Ghose, Pattabhi Sitaramaya, Asaf Ali and Acharya Narendra Dev <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were also involved.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Causes of the Quit India Movement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The immediate cause for the Quit India Movement was the<\/span><b> failure of the Cripps Mission and the hardships caused during World War II.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Phases of the Quit India Movement:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Quit India Movement can be broadly divided into <\/span><b>three phases<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><b>First Phase:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The movement initially remained <\/span><b>largely non-violent and involved civil disobedience, strikes and boycotts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The British government responded with widespread repression and arrested almost all major Congress leaders, including <\/span><b>Mahatma Gandhi, who remained imprisoned until 1945.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>There was widespread urban uprising, boycott of goods, and shop picketing.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Second Phase:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The movement gradually became <\/span><b>more aggressive and violent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with attacks on government buildings, offices and other symbols of British authority, communication was hampered. <\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Railway tracks and stations were destroyed, causing significant infrastructural damage.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Britishers also retaliated vehemently, issuing fines, lathi charges, and jail.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Third Phase:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The final phase witnessed the emergence of <\/span><b>parallel or independent governments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in several parts of the country, including <\/span><b>Ballia, Satara and Tamluk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Successes of the Quit India Movement<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Women\u2019s Participation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Women played a significant role in the movement. <\/span><b>Aruna Asaf Ali<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hoisted the national flag at Gowalia Tank Maidan, while <\/span><b>Usha Mehta<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> operated an underground radio station to spread the message of the movement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Emergence of Future Leaders:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The movement brought several future national leaders to prominence, including <\/span><b>Biju Patnaik, Aruna Asaf Ali, Ram Manohar Lohia, Sucheta Kriplani and Jayaprakash Narayan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, many of whom supported the movement through underground activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Limitations of the Quit India Movement<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The movement <\/span><b>lacked the support of several important organisations and sections of society<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The British received support from the <\/span><b>Princely States, British Indian Army, Indian Civil Services, Viceroy\u2019s Council, Indian Imperial Police and the All-India Muslim League<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also opposed the movement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Prime Minister, Home Minister and Defence Minister of India paid tribute to the freedom fighters who participated in the Quit India Movement and the Kakori Train Action.
