The <strong>female is called a peahen<\/strong>, while <strong>young ones are called peachicks.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Appearance:<\/strong> The <strong>male has bright blue feathers and a long, iridescent tail train with eye-shaped spots<\/strong>,\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Female <\/strong>has<strong> brown plumage, a shorter tail and slight green accents on the neck.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sexual Dimorphism:<\/strong> <strong>Males and females <\/strong>differ clearly in their<strong> physical appearance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Behaviour:<\/strong> It is <strong>generally ground-dwelling<\/strong> but <strong>roosts on trees at night.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Males defends its territory<\/strong> and forms harems during the breeding season.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Diet:<\/strong> It is <strong>omnivores<\/strong> and feeds on seeds, fruits, flowers, <strong>insects, small reptiles and small mammals.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It may <strong>also eat crops near agricultural areas.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Breeding:<\/strong> It is <strong>polygamous<\/strong>, and its breeding season usually <strong>coincides with the monsoon.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Males <\/strong>displays its<strong> feathers to attract females<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vocalization:<\/strong> It is <strong>known for its loud \u2018may-yow\u2019 call<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conservation Status<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IUCN Red List: Least Concern<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: India recently donated five Indian peafowls\u2014four blue males and one white male-to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
