MoHFW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP)<\/strong> was rolled out on <strong>07th April 2016<\/strong> as part of the <strong>National Health Mission (NHM).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Nodal Ministry:<\/b>\u00a0Ministry of Health and Family Welfare<\/li>\n<li><b>Aim:<\/b> It aims to improve access to <strong>haemodialysis services<\/strong> by establishing <strong>dialysis centres in District Hospitals<\/strong> and other <strong>health facilities<\/strong> across the country and providing <strong>free dialysis services to eligible patients<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Beneficiaries:<\/strong> The scheme targets people living <strong>Below Poverty Line(BPL) <\/strong>at the district hospitals in the country.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Features<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>guidelines<\/strong> for Programme envisage the provision of <strong>dialysis services<\/strong> in\u00a0<b>PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><strong>Dialysis centres<\/strong> under PMNDP are <strong>established<\/strong> based on <strong>proposals received<\/strong> from the <strong>States\/UTs in their annual Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Financing: For Below Poverty Line (BPL) economic group:\u00a0<\/b><strong>100% expenses are directly covered<\/strong> under <strong>NHM<\/strong> by the government.\n<ul>\n<li><b>For non-BPL patients:\u00a0<\/b>They can <strong>get treated<\/strong> at the <strong>district hospitals<\/strong> by <strong>paying the same rates as paid by the government for the BPL patient.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>PMNDP portal:<\/strong>\u00a0The PMNDP portal (IT platform) was launched on <strong>05 May 22 <\/strong>to <strong>integrate<\/strong> all the <strong>dialysis centres<\/strong> operational in the <strong>state under NHM<\/strong> and <strong>facilitate building of renal registry<\/strong> and ensuring <strong>portability<\/strong> within the state <strong>(one state one dialysis)<\/strong> and later <strong>throughout the country<\/strong> (<strong>One Nation-One Dialysis).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><span id=\"What_is_Dialysis\"><b>About Dialysis<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_369543\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-369543\" style=\"width: 463px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-369543\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Source-Cauvery-Hospital.jpg?resize=463%2C293&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Dialysis\" width=\"463\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Source-Cauvery-Hospital.jpg?resize=300%2C190&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Source-Cauvery-Hospital.jpg?resize=768%2C487&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Source-Cauvery-Hospital.jpg?w=1018&amp;ssl=1 1018w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-369543\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source &#8211; Cauvery Hospital<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dialysis<\/strong> is a procedure that <strong>removes waste and fluids<\/strong> from the <strong>body<\/strong> that the <strong>kidneys are not able to remove<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It also <strong>aims<\/strong> to keep the <strong>body in balance<\/strong> by <strong>correcting the levels of various toxic substances in the blood<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Without dialysis<\/strong>, all patients with complete <strong>kidney failure would die<\/strong> from the <strong>build-up of toxins<\/strong> in the bloodstream.<\/li>\n<li><b>Types of Dialysis<\/b>: There are <strong>two main types<\/strong> of dialysis &#8211;\n<ul>\n<li><b>Hemodialysis (HD\/Blood Dialysis):<\/b>\u00a0In HD, the <strong>blood is filtered<\/strong> through a <strong>machine<\/strong> that <strong>acts like an artificial kidney<\/strong> and is <strong>returned back into the body<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>HD <strong>needs to be performed<\/strong> in a <strong>designated dialysis center<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is usually <strong>needed about 3 times per week<\/strong>, with <strong>each episode<\/strong> taking about <strong>3-4 hours. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Peritoneal dialysis (PD\/Water Dialysis):<\/b>\u00a0In PD, the <strong>blood is cleaned without being removed from the body<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>abdomen sac (lining)<\/strong> acts as a <strong>natural filter<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>solution<\/strong> (mainly made up of <strong>salts and sugars<\/strong>) is <strong>injected<\/strong> into the <strong>abdomen<\/strong> that encourages <strong>filtration<\/strong> such that the <strong>waste is transferred from the blood to the solution. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>There are 2 types of PD &#8211;<\/b> <strong>Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)<\/strong> and <strong>Automated Peritoneal Dialysis(APD).<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CAPD<\/strong> needs to be <strong>done 3 to 5 times every day<\/strong>, but <strong>does not require a machine<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>APD<\/strong> uses an <strong>automated cycler machine<\/strong> to perform <strong>3 to 5 exchanges<\/strong> during the <strong>night<\/strong> while the patient<strong> is asleep<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare has informed Lok Sabha about\u00a0Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme(PMNDP).
