They also compete for <strong>space and nutrients<\/strong> in the soil.<\/li>\n<li>Some bacteria produce <strong>antibiotics<\/strong> to inhibit or kill competing microorganisms. Eg<strong>. Soil bacteria such as <em>Streptomyces<\/em><\/strong> are important sources of <strong>antibiotic compounds used in medicine<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Soil microorganisms<\/strong> play an important role in the <strong>carbon cycle<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Some microbes help <strong>store carbon in the soil<\/strong>, while others decompose plant and animal remains and release carbon back into the environment.<\/li>\n<li>They\u00a0are therefore important for <strong>decomposition and nutrient cycling<\/strong> in soil.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Condition impacting:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The activities of soil microbes are strongly affected by <strong>environmental conditions<\/strong>, including temperature.
