
{"id":369918,"date":"2026-08-20T15:54:37","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T10:24:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=369918"},"modified":"2026-08-20T15:54:37","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T10:24:37","slug":"apong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/apong\/","title":{"rendered":"Apong"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-box-green\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>News:<\/strong> In recent years, Apong has been transformed into a premium bottled drink called Ti:Po.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">About Apong<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 297px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/card_img\/2088825762379862016\/ZmEwRRTI?format=jpg&amp;name=orig\" alt=\"Apong\" width=\"297\" height=\"167\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: TH<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Apong is a <strong>fermented rice-based alcoholic beverage<\/strong> is popular among the <strong>Mishing tribe in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is popular in Assam as <strong>sai mod (ash liquor).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Varieties:<\/strong> The Mishings prepare two types of<strong> rice-based alcoholic beverages<\/strong> &#8211;<strong> paro-apong (<em>sai mod<\/em>) and nogin-apong.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>How it is prepared:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Brewing:<\/strong> The brewing of the beverage begins by making a<strong>pop pitha, a yeast cake.<\/strong> It includes 16-39 varieties of herbs, barks, plants, and twigs that are cleaned and either used fresh or sun-dried.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cake making:<\/strong> Later, soaked rice and herbs are ground separately, mixed with water, shaped into ovoid cakes and dried in the sun.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nogin-apong<\/strong> is made by<strong> fermenting dried boiled rice with crushed apop pitha in sealed earthen pots for 4\u20135 days.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It has a blackish to reddish-brown colour and an earthy aroma.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Paro-apong<\/strong> is prepared<strong> by mixing dried cooked rice with ash powder and apop pitha.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is <strong>fermented in sealed clay pots for about 20 days<\/strong> and then filtered through a bamboo container lined with banana leaves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alcohol content:<\/strong> It has <strong>14% alcohol content.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Flavour:<\/strong> It has<strong> two distinct ending notes<\/strong> in flavours: <strong>sweet and smoky and\u00a0 fruity and nutty.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Consumption:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nogin Apong<\/strong> is mainly prepared for<strong> everyday consumption.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Po:ro Apong<\/strong> is prepared for <strong>special occasions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cultural significance:<\/strong> It forms an integral part of their <strong>traditional lifestyle, rituals, and agricultural festivals.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is now being transformed as premium bottled drink named as <strong>Ti:Po (in Mising language means a satisfactory drink).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">About Mishing Tribe<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Mishings of Assam, also known as Miri by the people living in the plains<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution:<\/strong> They are settled across the southwestern and upper regions of the Assam- especially in the districts of <strong>Jorhat, Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Sonitpur<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Smaller population also lives in Arunachal Pradesh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Origin:<\/strong> They are a part of the <strong>Tani group, associated with tribes like the Adi<\/strong> in Arunachal.\n<ul>\n<li>They reportedly migrated from the hilly regions of Arunachal Pradesh to settle in the plains of Assam,<strong> near the riverbanks of the Subansiri and Brahmaputra.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Worship:<\/strong> They practise <strong><em style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Do-nyi-Polo<\/em><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and <strong>worship the sun and the moon.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Livelihood:<\/strong> The Mishing women are<strong> skilled in weaving and renowned for creating colourful textiles<\/strong> inspired by the local flora and fauna.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: In recent years, Apong has been transformed into a premium bottled drink called Ti:Po.
