(NADCP) was launched in 2019 and is one of India&#8217;s largest livestock health initiatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2><b>About National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP)<\/b><\/h2>\n<figure <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">launched in <\/span><b>2019.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Nodal Ministry: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The nodal ministry<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the <\/span><b>Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> specifically implemented through the <\/span><b>Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD).<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Aim:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It aimed at<\/span><b> controlling and eradicating Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by vaccinating <\/span><b>100% cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat and pig population for FMD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>100% bovine female calves of 4-8 months of age for brucellosis.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Objective: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to control <\/span><b>these two diseases by 2025, and to eradicate them by 2030.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Budgetary Outlay: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <\/span><b>received 100% funding from the Centre <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the total outlay o<\/span><b>f Rs.13, 343.00 crore for five years (2019-20 to 2023-24).<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The programme is <\/span><b>supported by strengthened veterinary infrastructure, digital livestock databases, research institutions, and <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/reinforcing-the-case-for-a-one-health-approach\/\">One Health initiatives<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Activities undertaken under the programme:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Mass FMD vaccination<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of all susceptible bovines and small ruminants every six months.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Public awareness campaigns<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and orientation of officials for effective programme implementation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Ear-tagging, registration, and uploading of animal data<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the Bharat Pashudhan Portal (NDLM).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Sero-surveillance and monitoring<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through pre- and post-vaccination sample testing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Note:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Sero-surveillance involve<\/span><b>s population-level assessment of antibody prevalence <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to estimate disease exposure and immunity, sero-monitoring focuses on longitudinal tracking of antibody levels to understand immunity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Procurement of vaccines and cold-chain equipment <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to ensure quality delivery.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Outbreak investigation, virus isolation and typing,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and regulation of animal movement through quarantine and check-posts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Continuous data generation, monitoring, and impact evaluation.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Remuneration to vaccinators<\/strong>, with a minimum of \u20b93 per vaccination dose.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Programme implementation status:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The programme has given <\/span><b>147.16 crore FMD vaccine doses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, benefiting <\/span><b>8.04 crore farmers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Disease has reduced significantly:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> FMD outbreaks fell from <\/span><b>132 in 2019 to 40 in 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while Brucellosis outbreaks declined from <\/span><b>22 to 15<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Lower virus circulation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> NSP antibody prevalence dropped from <\/span><b>20.8% in 2019 to 8.1% in 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, showing that FMD transmission has reduced.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Strong control of FMD:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There have been <\/span><b>no FMD outbreaks caused by the Asia-1 serotype for the past three years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By <strong>integrating disease control, digital monitoring, and pandemic preparedness,<\/strong> it is contributing to a more disease-secure livestock sector in contagious viral vesicular disease of cloven-hoofed animals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats and pigs etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Impact:<\/strong> It <\/span><b>leads to reduction in milk yield, decreased growth rate, infertility, reduced working capacity in bullocks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and a trade embargo in the international market.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Control:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Control of FMD can be <\/span><b>achieved by mass vaccination of susceptible livestock repeatedly<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at regular intervals till the incidence of the disease comes down.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box yellow-h2-box\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>About Brucellosis<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Caused by: <\/b>It <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a <\/span><b>reproductive disease<\/b> of cattle and buffaloes <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">caused by<\/span><b> bacterium Brucella abortus.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Symptoms: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The disease is characterized<\/span><b> by fever, induced abortion at the last stage of pregnancy, infertility, delayed heat, interrupted lactation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> resulting in loss of calves, loss in production of meat and milk.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bovine brucellosis is<\/span><b> endemic in India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>appears to be on the increase in recent times<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Prevention:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In the absence of any treatment for Brucellosis in bovine animals, the disease can be prevented by vaccination.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Control: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Control of Brucellosis can be achieved by a once-in-a-lifetime vaccination of female bovine calves (4 \u2013 8 months
