India and Russia (formerly the Soviet Union) have had a longstanding and strategic relationship since the establishment of formal diplomatic ties in April 1947, just months before India’s independence. The relationship has evolved over the decades, with periods of both cooperation and tension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Early Years (1947-1955)<\/strong><\/td>\n\n
