E. Barnard, Barnard&#8217;s Star is the closest single star to the Sun. While the star itself is ancient probably twice the age of our Sun.<\/li>\n<li>Barnard&#8217;s Star is a<strong> red dwarf,<\/strong> a small and cooling star and produces relatively little light making it hard to discern any bodies in its orbit.<\/li>\n<li>At nearly six light-years away Barnard\u2019s star is the next closest star to the Sun after the <strong>Alpha Centauri triple system. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is at least 3.2 times heavier than Earth and is the second nearest to Earth outside the solar system.<\/li>\n<li>Despite being relatively close to its parent star, the planet receives less than two per cent of the energy Earth gets from the Sun.<\/li>\n<li>Researchers estimates that it has a surface temperature of -170 degrees Celsius (-274 Fahrenheit) which makes it inhospitable.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s thought that Barnard&#8217;s Star is tearing through space at around 500,000 km\/h, making it the fastest moving known object in the universe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong>Radial velocity method: <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>The researchers used the radial velocity method during the observations that led to the discovery of Barnard&#8217;s star b.<\/li>\n<li>This technique detects wobbles in a star which are likely to be caused by the gravitational pull of an orbiting planet.<\/li>\n<li>These wobbles affect the light coming from the star.<\/li>\n<li>As the star moves towards the Earth its spectrum appears slightly shifted towards the blue and, as it moves away, it is shifted towards the red.<\/li>\n<li>This is the first time that this technique has been used to detect a planet this small so far away from its host star.<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-37039\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/super.jpg?resize=629%2C328&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"629\" height=\"328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/super.jpg?w=629&amp;ssl=1 629w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/super.jpg?resize=150%2C78&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/super.jpg?resize=300%2C156&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 629px) 100vw, 629px\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Super-Earth\u2019 found orbiting Sun\u2019s nearest single star News: Astronomers have discovered a frozen planet with a mass over three times that of the Earth, orbiting the closest solitary star to the Sun.
