class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Ministry of Coal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana (TBSY)<\/strong> is a <strong>flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR)<\/strong> initiative <strong>Coal India Limited (CIL) <\/strong>to address the treatment needs of children suffering from <strong>Thalassemia and Aplastic Anaemia \u2014 rare genetic blood disorders.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>CIL<\/strong> is the first PSU to take up such a CSR project in 2017, <strong>for <\/strong>curative treatment of<strong> Thalassemia.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Launch Year:<\/strong> It was launched in <strong>2017.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Funded by:\u00a0<\/strong>The scheme is a<strong> Coal India CSR funded Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation(HSCT) program.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal ministry: <\/strong>It is implemented in <strong>coordination<\/strong> with <strong>Thalassemics India<\/strong>, with <strong>monitoring guidance<\/strong> from the <strong>Ministry of Health and Family Welfare<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> It aims to provide a<strong> one-time cure opportunity to underprivileged Thalassemia patients<\/strong> who have a matched sibling donor but do not have the financial resources to cover the cost of the procedure.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Financial assistance:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Under the scheme, up to <strong>Rs. 10 lakh per patient<\/strong> is extended directly to empanelled hospitals<strong> for Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), <\/strong>against a total outlay of<strong> Rs. 130 crore across four phases.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong> It support<strong>s families with an annual income below 8 lakh rupees.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">About Nanha Sa completely<strong> free corrective heart surgeries for children with congenital heart defects.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Launched by:<\/strong> It was <strong>launched<\/strong> <strong>by CIL<\/strong> in partnership <strong>with the Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It has scaled up\u00a0through<strong> CIL subsidiaries like NCL, SECL, CCL, and WCL.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The program was<strong> designed to support children through the entire journey of care,<\/strong> from awareness and screening to diagnosis, surgery and follow-up.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coverage:<\/strong> Over<strong> 2 lakh children have been screened using modern diagnostic tools, and more than 1,500 corrective surgeries<\/strong> have been completed, <strong>entirely free of cost to patient families,<\/strong> including travel and hospitalisation expenses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: Thalassemia<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Thalassemia<\/strong>\u00a0is a<strong> chronic and genetic blood disorder<\/strong> due to which a patient\u2019s body cannot make enough hemoglobin leading to anemia.\n<ul>\n<li>This <strong>disease is passed from parents to children<\/strong> through genes and people suffering from it require blood transfusions to survive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"content-box-yellow\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>About Hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation(HSCT): <\/strong>It is the<strong> transplantation of multipotent hematopoietic stem cells<\/strong> usually derived from<strong> bone marrow, peripheral blood, or umbilical cord blood.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It may be<strong> autologous (the patient\u2019s own stem cells are used), allogeneic<\/strong> (the stem cells come from a donor) <strong>or syngeneic (<\/strong>from an identical twin).<\/li>\n<li>It is most often <strong>performed for patients with certain cancers of the blood, thalassemia or bone
