{"id":371735,"date":"2026-09-14T14:46:26","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T09:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=371735"},"modified":"2026-09-14T14:46:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T09:16:26","slug":"koraput-coffee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/koraput-coffee\/","title":{"rendered":"Koraput Coffee"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-box-green\">\n<p><b>News: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Odisha\u2019s Koraput Coffee, grown by tribal farmers, gained international attention at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><b>About <\/b><b>Koraput Coffee<\/b><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 387px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ommcomnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/pg-2-18.jpg?resize=387%2C186&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Koraput Coffee\" width=\"387\" height=\"186\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source Ommcom News<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Koraput Coffee<\/strong> is <\/span>predominantly<b> 100% Arabica<\/b>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cultivated mainly in the <\/span><b>Nandapur and Machhkund areas of Koraput district in Odisha.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>primarily cultivated by tribal communities.\u00a0 <\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the early 2000s,<\/span><b> its cultivation has been promoted as an alternative to traditional podu (shifting) cultivation,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> providing tribal farmers with a more stable source of income.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Geographical conditions required:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Temperature:<\/strong> It <\/span><b>requires a cool, temperate highland climate with moderate temperatures.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Elevations:<\/strong> It is cultivated at <\/span><b>elevations of around 920-950 metres.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Shade requirement:<\/strong> It is<\/span><b> grown under the shade of trees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as mango, jackfruit and citrus.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Rainfall:<\/strong> It requires<\/span><b> abundant annual rainfall.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Soil:<\/strong> It grows<\/span><b> well in <\/b><b>rich red lateritic and red loamy soils<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enriched with organic matter from forest canopy decay.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>coffee cherries are handpicked at peak ripeness and processed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before being procured, dried, graded, processed and marketed with support from the <\/span><b>Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation of Odisha Ltd (TDCCOL).<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0known for <strong>its rich aroma and exceptional taste.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Launch of the \u2018Koraput Coffee\u2019 brand: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was <\/span><b>launched in 2019, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the <\/span><b>aim of creating a structured market for coffee produced by tribal farmers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and strengthening the value chain.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Recognition:<\/strong> Koraput Coffee received<strong> GI recognition in 2019<\/strong> under the shared <strong>\u201cAraku Valley Arabica\u201d GI tag,<\/strong> covering areas of <strong>both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Production in India:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the <\/span><b>2025-26 season, TDCCOL procured a record 102.54 metric tonnes of coffee fruit,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compared with 34.68 tonne in 2022-23 and 34.41 tonne in 2024-25.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Odisha\u2019s Koraput Coffee, grown by tribal farmers, gained international attention at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
