For per ton of steel production around 200 kg Steel slag is generated as solid waste.\n<ul>\n<li>Steel slag generation in the country is about 19 Million tons per annum and expected to reach 60 million tons by 2030.<\/li>\n<li>This huge quantity of steel slag is piled up in and around the steel plants as big mounds and becoming the source of air, water, and land pollution.<\/li>\n<li>Hence, the use of steel slag in road construction is an environmentally friendly cost-effective method.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Cheaper: <\/b>Steel slag road costs are <strong>about 30% cheaper<\/strong> than conventional making of roads.<\/li>\n<li><b>Less Maintenance cost: <\/b>Steel slag roads have been found to <strong>last ten years as compared to three to four years<\/strong> for bitumen roads, thus bringing down sharply the maintenance costs.<\/li>\n<li><b>More durable: <\/b>Steel slag roads are <strong>more durable and resistant<\/strong> to weather unpredictability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: solid;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<h2 class=\"yellow-h2-box\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Notable Uses of Steel Slag Road<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>In <strong>2022, Surat<\/strong> in Gujarat became the <strong>first city in the country<\/strong> to get a <strong>processed steel slag (industrial waste) road<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Border Roads Organisation (BRO)<\/strong> has also <strong>used steel slag<\/strong> to construct a <strong>long-lasting heavy-duty road at Arunachal Pradesh<\/strong> along the <strong>India-China border area<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>1.85-km road<\/strong> at <strong>Jindal Steel\u2019s Raigarh facility in Chhattisgarh<\/strong> has been recognised as the <strong>world\u2019s longest road built<\/strong> with processed steel-slag aggregates in 2026.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CSIR- Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi<\/strong> has <strong>pioneered<\/strong> the development of use of Steel slag in road construction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: India has set the Guinness World Record with World\u2019s Longest Steel Slag Road at Raigarh in Chhattisgarh.
