{"id":371806,"date":"2026-09-15T15:56:53","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T10:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=371806"},"modified":"2026-09-15T15:56:53","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T10:26:53","slug":"guneri-inland-mangrove","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/guneri-inland-mangrove\/","title":{"rendered":"Guneri Inland Mangrove"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-box-green\">\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong> Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister felicitated the Guneri Inland Mangrove Village Biodiversity Management Committee for its sustained efforts to conserve the Guneri inland mangroves.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">About Guneri Inland Mangrove<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 311px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRkZVHmFfE6TnE4OBX0WBJ0pdHxDmD3PFdNoKuAu8k3Lprbni05nTNph0aI&amp;s=10\" alt=\"Guneri Inland Mangrove\" width=\"311\" height=\"311\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Gujarat Biodiversity Board<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Guneri Inland Mangrove<\/strong> is a <strong>natural inland mangrove<\/strong> site located in<strong> Kutch district of Gujarat.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is located at a distance of<strong> 45 km from the Arabian Sea<\/strong> and<strong> 4 km from the Kori Creek<\/strong>, where <strong>seawater never approaches<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Uniqueness:<\/strong> It is <strong data-start=\"275\" data-end=\"341\">one of only eight known inland mangrove locations in the world<\/strong> and the <strong>last of its kind in India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recognition:<\/strong> It was<strong> declared Gujarat\u2019s first Biodiversity Heritage Site<\/strong> in <strong>January 2025.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Area:<\/strong> It spreads over<strong> 33 hectares<\/strong> including the buffer zone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Formation:<\/strong> It may have <strong>originated<\/strong> either after the <strong>Miocene-period marine transgression<\/strong> or along the banks of the <strong>lost<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/rejuvenation-work-of-saraswati-river\/\"> Saraswati River<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/rejuvenation-work-of-saraswati-river\/\">\u00a0<\/a>in the Great Rann of Kachchh, which is believed to have existed around <strong>3000\u20134000 BC<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>The mangroves survive on <strong data-start=\"25\" data-end=\"71\">limestone deposits connected to the seabed<\/strong>, which allow a continuous flow of groundwater.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It has <strong>inland mangrove<\/strong> of <strong>considerable height.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>devoid of any sludge,<\/strong> and <strong>is spread over a flat piece of land<\/strong> like a forest.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>unique as it grows inland,<\/strong> away from regular seawater and muddy coastal conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Unlike typical coastal mangroves, it supports <strong data-start=\"60\" data-end=\"80\">Avicennia marina<\/strong> through <strong>underground saline water and tidal influence<\/strong> from nearby Kori Creek.\n<ul>\n<li>It is also a unique example of <strong data-start=\"184\" data-end=\"240\">nature\u2019s adaptation and resilience in an arid region<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna:<\/strong> The Guneri inland mangrove area <strong>houses chinkara, ratel, around 20 migratory and 25 resident migratory avifaunal species.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister felicitated the Guneri Inland Mangrove Village Biodiversity Management Committee for its sustained efforts to conserve the Guneri inland mangroves.
