Kishau Corp<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Kishau Multipurpose Project<\/strong> is an <strong>inter-state hydropower<\/strong> and <strong>water-storage project <\/strong>on the <strong>Tons River.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Location:<\/strong> The project site lies on the <strong>border of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> The project aims to <strong>generate hydropower, create irrigation potential, and provide drinking and industrial water<\/strong> to the beneficiary states.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Participating States:<\/strong> <strong>Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh<\/strong> are the participating states.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Funding Pattern:<\/strong> The <strong>Central Government will bear 90% of the water<\/strong> component cost, while the <strong>remaining 10% will be shared by the six states.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Features<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dam:<\/strong> The project <strong>envisages a 232.6-metre-high concrete gravity dam.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Power Generation:<\/strong> It will have an <strong>installed capacity of 422 MW<\/strong> and is <strong>expected to generate 1,476 million units of clean hydropower.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Water Storage:<\/strong> The project will have a <strong>storage capacity of 1,786 MCM, with 1,324 MCM expected to be actually stored.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Irrigation and Water Supply:<\/strong> It is expected to create irrigation potential of about 97,076 hectares and provide drinking and industrial water to beneficiary states.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">About Tons River<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_371914\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-371914\" style=\"width: 436px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-371914\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Source-ResearchGate-3.jpg?resize=436%2C331&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Tons River\" width=\"436\" height=\"331\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Source-ResearchGate-3.jpg?resize=300%2C228&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Source-ResearchGate-3.jpg?resize=768%2C582&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Source-ResearchGate-3.jpg?w=1018&amp;ssl=1 1018w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 436px) 100vw, 436px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-371914\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source &#8211; ResearchGate<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Origin:<\/strong> The <strong>Tons river<\/strong> originates from the<strong> Bandarpunch Mountain (6,315 m) in Uttarakhand.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Natural Boundary:<\/strong> The Tons forms a natural <strong>boundary between Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in the Jaunsar region.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Course:<\/strong> It flows through the <strong>Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, touches Himachal Pradesh.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It has a <strong>length of about 200 km.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>perennial rivers emerging from the Himalayas.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Terrain:<\/strong> It flows through <strong>deep gorges, tranquil valleys and dense forests.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Tributaries:<\/strong> The <strong>Pabbar and Asan rivers<\/strong> are its main tributaries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Confluence:<\/strong> The river <strong>joins the Yamuna near Kalsi in Dehradun district, Uttarakhand.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Six states signed a Memorandum of Understanding, to pave the way for the long-pending 422 MW Kishau Multipurpose Project.
