font-size: 16px; font-weight: 700; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">Nodal Ministry:<\/strong> Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Aim:<\/strong> The programme aims <strong>to encourage farmers to adopt<\/strong> <strong>regenerative and climate-smart farming practices<\/strong> while providing them with an additional source of income through carbon credits.\n<ul>\n<li>The initiative is part of a wider transition towards <strong>regenerative agriculture in Punjab and Haryana.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Focus:<\/strong> It focuseson <strong>crop-residue management, water conservation and farming practices<\/strong> aimed at<strong> improving soil health and climate resilience.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Under the programme, farmers adopted practices such as <strong>Direct Seeded Rice (DSR), reduced tillage and improved crop-residue management<\/strong> during 2019\u20132022.\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>greenhouse-gas reductions and increases in<\/strong> <strong>soil carbon<\/strong> resulting from these practices were<strong> scientifically measured and independently verified<\/strong> before carbon credits were issued.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The<strong> first payments<\/strong> were initiated for <strong>2,550 farmers from Punjab and Haryana<\/strong>, with the farmers set to receive <strong>more than \u20b92.9 crore through digital payments<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Individual participating farmers received approximately <strong>\u20b93,000 to \u20b915,000<\/strong>, depending on their share of the carbon credits generated from their fields.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The first issuance of carbon credits covered around <strong>30,000 acres and generated more than 50,000 carbon credits<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Grow Indigo released the payments from its own funds <strong>before the carbon credits were fully sold<\/strong>, allowing farmers to receive the money without waiting for the sale proceeds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Farmers could choose between an <strong>assured upfront payment<\/strong> and <strong>75 per cent of the net carbon revenue after the carbon credits were sold<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Coverage:<\/strong> The programme currently covers <strong>more than two million acres and over 100,000 farmers across seven states<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: India\u2019s first soil-carbon payments will reach 2,550 farmers in Punjab and Haryana under \u2018Aadi\u2019, a farmer-carbon programme launched by Grow Indigo.
