<strong>pyroclastic shield volcano<\/strong> located in <strong>Northern Chad.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It&#8217;s located within the <strong>Tibesti Massif, a volcanic mountain range that straddles the border between <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/key-facts-about-chad\/\">Chad<\/a> and Libya.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Formation:<\/strong> The volcano was formed by <strong data-start=\"301\" data-end=\"323\">low-viscosity lava<\/strong>, which flows easily, along with explosively erupted <strong data-start=\"376\" data-end=\"391\">ignimbrites<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>These materials created a <strong data-start=\"419\" data-end=\"455\">low and broad volcanic structure<\/strong> covering about <strong data-start=\"471\" data-end=\"485\">60 \u00d7 80 km<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Size:<\/strong> Its dome-shaped cone is up to 69 kilometers across.\n<ul>\n<li>It reaches <strong data-start=\"509\" data-end=\"541\">3,415 m above sea level<\/strong>, making it the <strong data-start=\"557\" data-end=\"601\">highest summit in Africa\u2019s Sahara region<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Geological Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Compositions: <\/strong>The summit has <strong data-start=\"621\" data-end=\"639\">three calderas<\/strong> formed by powerful eruptions.\n<ul>\n<li data-section-id=\"1kfa05s\" data-start=\"604\" data-end=\"768\"><strong>Two older, overlapping calderas form a depression<\/strong> about <strong data-start=\"726\" data-end=\"740\">12 \u00d7 15 km<\/strong>, surrounded by a clear rim.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"194igud\" data-start=\"770\" data-end=\"890\">The <strong data-start=\"776\" data-end=\"820\">youngest and smallest caldera, Era Kohor<\/strong>, was formed by volcanic activity within the <strong data-start=\"865\" data-end=\"889\">past 2 million years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The lowest part of Era Kohor is covered by a thick layer of <strong data-start=\"343\" data-end=\"364\">bright-white salt<\/strong> that is up to <strong data-start=\"379\" data-end=\"415\">1,000 metres (3,300 feet) across<\/strong> and several feet thick.\n<ul>\n<li>The salt deposit was formed when an <strong data-start=\"636\" data-end=\"702\">ancient lake that once filled the Era Kohor caldera evaporated<\/strong>, leaving the salt behind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Another important <strong>natron deposit<\/strong> is found about <strong data-start=\"922\" data-end=\"956\">240 km northwest of Emi Koussi<\/strong> in the volcanic caldera of <strong data-start=\"984\" data-end=\"1014\">Trou au Natron (Doon Orei)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>slopes of Emi Koussi<\/strong> contain numerous dry <strong data-start=\"2007\" data-end=\"2026\">stream channels<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Numerous <strong data-start=\"9\" data-end=\"60\">lava domes, cinder cones, maars, and lava flows<\/strong> occur both <strong data-start=\"72\" data-end=\"144\">within the calderas and along the outer slopes of the shield volcano<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Young volcanic features such as <strong data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"957\">lava flows and scoria cones<\/strong> are also believed to be <strong data-start=\"982\" data-end=\"1015\">less than 2 million years old<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It
