production in Karnataka.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><b>About Tur Dal (Pigeon Pea) Cultivation in India<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Tur dal <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the <\/span><b>major legume crop.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also known as<\/span><b> pigeon pea or Arhar dal.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is the <b>second most important pulse after gram.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Geographical condition requirements :\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Climate:<\/strong> It is mainly grown in <\/span><b>tropical regions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, particularly in the <\/span><b>semi-arid areas of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Rainfall<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It requires <\/span><b>about 600\u2013650 mm of annual rainfall.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It needs <\/span><b>moist conditions during the first eight weeks <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and relatively dry conditions during flowering and pod development.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Temperature: <\/b>It grows well at<b> 26\u201330\u00b0C during the rainy season and 17\u201322\u00b0C during the post-rainy season (November\u2013March).<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Soil: <\/b>It grows well in<b> black cotton soils<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> because these <strong>soils retain moisture<\/strong>, which benefits the crop during dry spells.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can also thrive in<\/span><b> loamy and well-drained alluvial soils.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Sunlight: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>needs good sunlight <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">during pod development.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Low sunlight during the monsoon or cloudy weather can lead to poor pod formation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Intercropping: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is commonly <strong>grown as an intercrop<\/strong> with many other crops.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Major Diseases: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The major diseases affecting pigeonpea are <\/span><b>wilt, sterility mosaic disease, Phytophthora blight, Alternaria blight, and powdery mildew.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Production area: Uttar Pradesh <\/b>is the<b> leading producer of it in India, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">producing about 0.47 million tonnes from 0.49 million hectares.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other producers are <\/span><b>Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Exporter: Mozambique <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is an important <\/span><b>exporter of pigeonpea (Tur\/Arhar) to India.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Nutritional value:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>rich in protein and carbohydrates<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and
